Western Michigan may be forced to play without their starting QB Saturday at home against Toledo.
Western Michigan's Alex Carder fires a pass for a completion against Connecticut Saturday.
KALAMAZOO – Western Michigan University quarterback Alex Carder will have an X-ray on his right hand Monday, head coach Bill Cubit said Sunday afternoon.
Cubit said his senior quarterback will have his hand examined and will consult with a doctor. Results of the testing will likely be known Tuesday.
Carder hit his hand on a University of Connecticut player's helmet on a second down play with a few minutes remaining in the third quarter of WMU's 30-24 win.
Carder remained on the field for the third down play, but the Broncos did not convert a first down. Backup Tyler Van Tubbergen played the remainder of the game.
Carder's hand was swollen after Saturday's game.
He completed 18 of 34 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown and helped the Broncos (2-2) build a 17-0 lead.
The Broncos open Mid-American Conference play Saturday at Waldo Stadium with a 7 p.m. matchup against Toledo.
