Touts Newsletter Standings

Touts Newsletter Standings Made an attempt to track these last year but posting their plays before the games kicked off was supposedly sketchy. Something about cutting into their potential sales. Going to try and track them this year but will just tally the results after the week ends. If someone else wants to post a newsletters picks that we are tracking, that's up to them. The point of this exercise is to show the real results alongside the headlines they use to recap what happened. The differences in perception will be evident and often times comical. Let's start with the three of the most popular and go from there. Picks given stars, listed as preferred or higher or given their own category like "Dog of the Week" or "Technical Play of the Week" etc will be counted, so a newsletters number of picks may differ each week. The number next to the W or L is the stars or units given for each play. Standings will be based on a flat bet basis via Win pct. NorthCoast Sports - Phil Steele ----------------------------------- College -------- W4 - Kentucky over Ohio W3 - Army over Buffalo L3 - Northwestern over N Illinois W2 - La Tech over ULLaf W2 - Boise over Col St L1 Toledo over Missouri NFL ---- L4 New Eng over Miami L3 Tampa over Carolina L2 Chicago over Buffalo P2 NYJ over Oak (gets benefit of doubt on line) College 3-2 - flat bet +0.8 units - weighted +6.6 units NFL 0-3-1 - flat bet -3.3 units - weighted -9.9 units Overall 3-5-1 - flat bet -2.5 units - weighted -3.3 units =========== Gold Sheet ------------ College -------- L1 Army over Buffalo L1 Tulane over Geo Tech W1 Wyoming over Air Force NFL ---- L1 Pitt over Cleve L1 Tampa over Carolina L1 NYG over Det College 1-2 -1.2 units NFL 0-3 -3.3 units Overall 1-5 -4.5 units Winning Points ---------------- College -------- L4 Maryland over S Fla W3 Utah over Fresno L2 Northwestern over N Illinois L2 Michigan St over Oregon NFL ---- L4 Tampa over Carolina W3 Tenn over KC W2 Cincy over Balt L2 New Orleans over Atlanta College 1-3 - flat bet -2.3 - weighted -4.3 NFL 2-2 - flat bet -0.2 - weighted -1.6 Overall 3-5 - flat bet -2.5 - weighted -5.9 Standings ---------- NorthCoast 3-5-1 .375 (weighted -3.3 units) Winning Points 3-5 .375 (weighted -5.9 units) Gold Sheet 1-5 .167 (weighted -4.5 units) New sheets come out today. We'll see what the headlines are for each. NCoast will certainly go with something from the college picks. Winning Points and Gold Sheet have no idea.
Northcoast's Headline COLLEGE *’s 8-2 80% L2W!!! FEATURED PLAYS 5-1 83% L2W!!!! NFL 4* KEYS 21-8-1 72% L3Y!
Here's a link/twit from our friend "Cizzle" http://news.rouletters.com/one-born-every-minute-the-pregame-com-racket-0002251.html enjoy . . .
That article on PreGame shows 16 of the PreGame guys and their records on sold picks. None of them show a profit with many of them completely buried. Have no idea how accurate the record keeping is but that's pretty convincing evidence right there of how difficult it would be to try and follow anyone and win at this. Considering the fact that you'd fail to get their cited lines on many of the plays and that they release selections based more on convenience (is it on TV, is it a marquee game that the customers want to bet on etc) it would be virtually impossible to replicate the recommended bets and results.

Headlines for all three are as follows: Winning Points went 3-5 on their suggested plays last week. This weeks headline reads: "COLLEGE PHONE PICKS +2,240 so far" Have no idea what that's referring to. ==== The Gold Sheet went 1-5 last week. This week's headline reads: "College Key Releases 68-53 last 2 years! NFL Keys 119-99 Since 2009" Not sure if that tally is a constant or if they change it each week so will see what they do next week. Of the ones I receive, they are the most low key with the headlines and subsetting the results. ====== NorthCoast went 3-5 last week. This weeks headlines read: "College *s 8-2 80% L2W!!!" "Featured Plays 5-1 83% L2W!!!!" "NFL 4* Keys 21-8-1 72% L3Y!" Clearly Phil is the most vague and the most guilty of swapping subsets around. Is a 4* different then a 4* Key? How is he tabulating College *s ? Neither adding all the stars up nor counting each starred game as 1 play matches that 8-2 cited record. Despite the 3-5 record last week, sounds like Phil is doing great. His 8 exclamation marks used in the headline makes that plainly obvious. Adding Sports Reporters to the mix this week. If I can find last week's I'll go over it and add them in so they are on the same schedule as the others.
Believe the inimitable Mr. Steele counts ONLY his 4* and 3* college and NFL picks for his "record" ... and yes, his UNDERDOG play which has been an outright winner so many times is included in the college record. Glad you are doing this Frank ... because for a long time it seemed my math skills learned in school were way out of whack. Appreciate all you do here ... thanks!
Results from Wk 2 NFL w/ Headlines for Wk 3 NorthCoast Sports - Phil Steele ----------------------------------- College -------- L4 - Idaho over W Mich L3 - Maryland over W Vir L3 - C Mich over Syracuse L2 - Army over Stanford W2 - TCU over Minny L1 - Florida over Kentucky L1 - Texas St over Navy NFL ---- L4 - Seattle over San Diego W3 - NE over Minny L2 - Miami over Buffalo W1 Hou over Oakland College 1-6 - flat bet -5.6 units - weighted -13.4 units NFL 2-2 - flat bet -0.2 units - weighted -2.4 units Overall 6-13-1 - flat bet -8.3 units - weighted -16.7 units A lousy week no matter how you slice it with a 1-6 mark on his area of expertise, college football. This weeks headline, though, reads: COLLEGE 4*s 12-5 71% L2Y!!! FEATURED PLAYS 6-2 75% L3W!!! NFL 4* KEYS 21-9-1 70% L3Y! Phil did include his 1-1 week in those featured plays and his 0-1 in the NFL4* Keys so give credit there. Didn't expect to see anything on the double digit units loss for the week bit he did reference the bad week on page 2. Also noticed he tries to track the other newsletters as well at bottom of page 2. These guys all have graders that take every close game as a win. If only there were somewhere you could bet that way. Phil still leads in exclamation points by a wide margin. =========== Gold Sheet ------------ College -------- L1 C Mich over Syracuse L1 Ark St over Mia Fla P1 Rutgers over Penn St W1 Nebraska over Fresno NFL ---- L1 GBay over Jets L1 Indy over Philly L1 NE/Min OV the total College 1-2-1 -1.2 units NFL 0-3 -3.3 units Overall 2-10-1 -9.0 units Amazingly, the Gold Sheet identically replicated their Week 1 performance in week 2, except for the push on the added game. Units lost was a carbon copy of last week. GoldSheet Headline this week: College Key Releases 70-55 last 2+ years! Phil has a much higher 2yr win pct in college and has the Gold Sheet crushed in the exclamation point category. Winning Points ---------------- College -------- L4 Indiana over Bowling Green W3 Marshall over Ohio W2 Boise St over UConn W2 Okla over Tenn L2 GTech over G Southern P2 Rutgers over Penn St I know the touts will scream that the Rutgers game went to 3.5 over the weekend but they put the sheets out on Tue and vs the midweek line this game was lined -3. NFL ---- P4 Green Bay over Jets W3 NE over Minny W2 Carolina over Detroit L2 Houston over Oak Gave them a big benefit of the doubt on the Green Bay game as that one was lined 7.5-8 all week and dropped to 7 on the weekend. At best they got a push if you bet late. College 3-2-1- flat bet +0.8 - weighted +0.4 NFL 2-1-1 - flat bet +0.9 - weighted +2.8 Overall 8-8-2 - flat bet -0.8- weighted -2.7 Off this performance, Winning Points Headline Reads: FOOTBALL HEATS UP!! NCAA-NFL TOP PICKS 8-2 LAST WEEK I get 6-2-2 but certain they are counting Rutgers as a cover. The other has to be Green Bay (won by 7) who were -7.5 or more all week long and settled at 7 on Sat night. No way you could count that as a cover so there's one win that is bogus. This will be a recurring issue in this and it will never be graded anything other then in the touts favor. Standings after 2nd week of NFL (skipped wk 1 NCAA) ------------------------------------------------------------ Winning Points 8-8-2 .500 (weighted -2.7 units) NorthCoast 6-13-1 .316 (weighted -16.7 units) Gold Sheet 2-10-1 .167 (weighted -9.0 units)
