American Casino Guide 2014 versus 2013

Did a subjective analysis of the LV area coupons in the new ACG 2014 edition versus the 2013 edition.

For me with regard to gambliing the new 2014 has lost quite a few valuable coupons. Gone are the following:

Plaza $10 MP
Hooters $10 Free Slot Play (open to existing members)
Hard Rock $10 MP
Tuscany $5 MP

The only ones of value they added are an Orleans $10 Free Slot Play and if you want to take the trek out there a $5 MP at the Rampart casino.

In addition in other categories, they no longer have the long-standing Ellis Island 4 Free Cocktails; the Ellis Island 2-for-1 Entree (or 50% off for 1); as well as the newer the $10 off at Hash House a Go Go coupons.

On the plus side thay have added 2-for-1 buffets at most of the Station Casinos including Red Rock and GVR (except you can't use them on a Friday or a Saturday and there is no 50% off for one). Somewhat useful for me is the addition of a $10 off coupon on a $20 check at most stations Grand Cafes (which I find to be good food at reasonable prices).

I guess we'll soon know what the 2014 MRB booklet looks like -- maybe in a few weeks?

Thanks for the analysis. FYI - the 4 free cocktails at Ellis was not in the 2013 book either.
I go to Vegas every year with the idea of using some ACG coupons but then due to the cumbersome nature of the book and the lack of perforation between coupons I mostly leave the book in the room. I wish Steve would understand the inconvenience this causes. I would venture to guess that if he would design a pullout section for the coupons and/or perforate the pages he would sell many more books making the expenditure worth it.
You can cut there coupons from the book. Just take the membership card with you-I've only been asked for the card once but better to have it then be refused for not having it.

I do as Jokare recommends. I was asked for the membership card at the slot club desk at El Cortez a couple years ago.
I find the 2014 book an improvement myself, being a VP player. Although Ellis Island has dropped the free drinks coupons, etc., they now have a coupon for a free entree (not BOGO) for earning 200 pts. ($200 play).
There are also coupons for a free buffet with pts. earned at California, Fremont, Main St. Station, and South Point. A VP player now can get seven free meals out of the ACG (CALIFORNIA, ELLIS ISLAND, FREMONT, G COAST, MAIN ST. STATION, SAM'S TOWN, AND SOUTH POINT), wagering a grand total of $3,350, which is chicken-feed for any VP player, considering the fact that all these casinos have either profitable or near-profitable VP. I never even pay any attention to how much I have to lose to get the free buffet, because I'm going to be playing about 40-60 hrs. a week of video poker anyway, and whether I win or lose doesn't matter. I'm playing a profitable or nearly profitabe game which I'm going to be playing somewhere anyway, so why not spend it to get a free meal?
I agree 100%!!
Point of order.....I'm not complaining about ACG; it still provides me with great value. But the Boyd property coupons specify "slots", which would seem to exclude video poker. Anybody have more information regarding this?
The coupons for Boyd's downtown properties were not in the book before, to the best of my knowledge. But in April of this year, I earned the required pts. playing only video poker, and got the buffets without a hitch. In fact, I had two books, and earned the required pts. on both my card and my wife's card, and got two free buffets at both Sam's Town and Gold Coast.

I have seen slot clubs make a distinction between slot play and video poker play when accumulating points. But I have never seen a slot club make a distinction between slot machines and video poker machines when it comes to credits that can be used in "slots".

If Boyd is saying that you get $10 of play, I'd be confident that it can be used in video poker machines.
