4Q: what it takes

I've been told, and confirmed, that the play needed to get your room comped is 800 points/day on video poker and 600 on slots.i verified that your points/comp balance wouldn't be used for that.

So, 800 points requires $6400 coin-in if you play JOB. I consider this barely achievable at .25 in one day. If you escalate to $1 DB, you need $12,800 per day (points earned are at half the rate of JOB), which would take you half as long as earning the needed amount at .25 JOB.

Now, assuming what I was told is correct, you earn 0.9125% in comps and cash back at JOB, or half that at DB. So you have a net earn of about 0.45% on either game. The real question is whether you can more easily stomach the high variance and greater coin-in of DB or the mind-numbing boredom of JOB.

You'll be eating at Magnolia's, and you'll be downtown, so breaking rocks at JOB might be worth it.

Thanks, good info gamble there every trip, have stayed there twice.

The 4Q has 50-cent JOB that give points at 1 for every $8 coin in. Still takes a lot of pounding to get there. If you average 1,000 points per day I think you might be pleased with the results. In any event, hosts tend to overstate the amount of play you need for a comped room. Then they do mailers that are generally more generous than what the host offered.

I gave them a solid day or two of play about 18 months ago. A few months later I called and asked a host about a two-night room comp. The best he could offer was to review me on the back end, which is a recipe for disaster. A week later I got a postcard offering two nights and a bit of food and free play. It will likely take you four months after playing to get your first mailed offer.

I agree with FrankH.  Hosts and Marketing are two distinct systems that don't connect for offer/comping purposes.   Hosts will give a table play number, e.g. "$150 a hand for four hours at Blackjack", which may be inflated anyway. But for cold-calls, machine play/points is another calculation Hosts may not be willing to manage other than to say "It depends on your play" and "Check with us at the end of your stay."

I've called the Marketing department rather than speak to a Host.  Marketing can be much more helpful, see pending offers, etc.

The 4Q/Binions gravy train is nearing an end.   March mailers have been slashed for all VP players and changes to the comp/cashback system are in the works.   It was an amazing ride while it lasted.

I got three free nights and $40 free play for Nov-Dec and Jan-Feb. I called the host and asked if something similar was available for March. She said that "there aren't any offers on your account." Even though I gave them pretty heavy play in Jan and Feb.

Another one bites the dust.

That's crazy.  I took your advice and tried to get established there in January for the first time.  Oh well.

I did like playing that quarter progressive game bar top at the D.  I'm getting offers from them to at least stay there again.  I didn't mind the D one bit actually.  And playing poker at GN was pretty fun as well.  The only downside is it is very expensive to eat downtown.
