This is a "don't ask, don't tell", whatever you feel like gifting. But any Host worth their salt (and your comps) will gladly accept a C-Note or two. Seal it in a card "To Gomer Pyle" on front, a note of thanks/ appreciation inside with the cash (signed by you, of course!), leave it at his/her office at the end of your stay. You can even use the hotel stationary, if there is any in your room. If not, ask housekeeping for some. DON'T ASK ANYBODY. Just do it.
CAVEAT....After years of "tipping" starting with worthless knick-nacks, ties, scarves, gift cards, and on up to C-Notes in special circumstances, I recommend never starting the Host gift/tip habit unless your Host took you on an African safari or to the skybox at the Super Bowl or something of that value. Mostly they don't remember us anyway. Plus once started it feeks like an obligation every subsequent trip. Your play at the casino is the best "appreciation."
As always, JMHO. Everyone has different experiences with this. Do what feels right to you.
Candy
I just think I'll take that C-note over to the coffee shop and buy one croissant with it instead.
Just a thought: of course, hosts report the full value of the gifts they receive and pay taxes on them, right? RIGHT???
