Casino Hosts in Vegas

Thank you, Max.  And I assume not every casino does these the same.  And what is the dollar/comp value of the point?  Probably different as well.

Yeah, you have to calculate how much coin-in earned those points, which will vary from one casino to the next.

If I forget to record my point balance when I begin play on a given day, I estimate the total time I've played and calculate a coin-in estimate based on 1000 hands per hour. Most folks average about 600.

Yow.

Playing VP at the rate of 1000 hands per hour.

17 hands a minute.

One hand every 3.6 seconds.

For an hour.

All in hopes of breaking even.

AT BEST.

I enjoy VP.

But that sounds like a terrible job.

Certainly not a fun hobby that I could relate to.

To each his own.

When you get to the level of expertise (for a given game) such that you don't need to pause and think very often, that speed is easily attainable on a machine without sticky buttons. But I play to break even AT WORST. Therefore, it's best to play at the maximum possible speed without an unacceptable error rate.

As far as it being a "job' is concerned, I play when I want to and for whatever length of time I wish. I only earn about $10 an hour plus what I get in comps, so it's not a living. It's a way to get a free or deeply discounted Vegas vacay. And since I have a fixed total coin-in goal, and yes, +EV VP can get tedious, I get that goal out of the way as quickly as possible. I can play Deuces, JOB, and Double Bonus pretty much on autopilot.

And when, for instance, I play 10/6 DDB (100.0%) at Emerald Island for a couple of hours, get $20 cash back, and earn enough points for a steak dinner, believe me...I'm having fun.

I recently took a vacation in Scotland. Golfed on a very old course, and saw a number of world-class comedy shows.

Before that was Washington DC. The Smithsonian was incredible, as ever. And of course the food.

I haven't been to Central America yet, but Costa Rica is coming up. Anticipating lots of beach time, and some sort of jungle experience (fingers crossed).

I like video poker. But damn . . . .

Well, yeah, if you're not interested in gambling (at least, not now), then Vegas has about as many attractions as Skunk Falls, Iowa. AND, truly rotten weather!

No culture. No history. No beauty. There was actually a movement about 25 years ago to diversify Vegas's cultural and entertainment scene. The casinos, jealously guarding their monopoly, crushed it.

So now it's gamble, eat, drink, gamble, eat, drink, until you go broke or croak.

Oh, and if you enjoyed the Smithsonian...guess who is taking it over and is purging all the exhibits on stuff like slavery and segregation?

You'll enjoy Costa Rica. My hot tip is to NOT look like an American (however you think you might manage that). Aside from the fact that Americans get charged the highest prices for everything (we're all rich!), Americans are pariahs right now. They might spit in your margarita.
