Defining value..where do you find it?

All of us likely have our own definition of what this term means / implies regarding Vegas trip planning and execution after arrival. Varied interpretations of value are affected by a lot of things. Likes/ dislikes/preferences..available discretionary funds / bankrolls.. convenience factors...comp offers...use / nonuse of coupons... gaming options...previous Vegas trip experience levels... expectations ( even if those might be misguided at times for most of us)...and the reality that others in a given travel group might want something different than our own preferences ( just ask my wife). A fabulous value deal for some might inspire reluctance / disdain for others.

I'm just curious as to how ,what and where the other members here find their version of value in Vegas. Some might find value in one of those fancy $200 / per person sit-down dining experiences involving overspray from a nearby fountain, while others figure they captured a great deal  with an In-N-Out burger. Contrast a time share lodging experience vs a Tower Suite at Wynn / Encore. Varied in-town transportation options as another comparison..car rental vs taxi or Deuce bus, etc.

We have our value preferences..just curious about yours for those who might care to share ( perhaps limited to the most important ones ).

I have enjoyed Vegas for over 30 years. My enjoyment comes from being able to get away and do whatever I feel like doing, at my own pace, which is why I like visiting for multiple days. I gamble mostly to hopefully win some money, but actually to set myself up for future visits, by being comped for my rooms, free food and free play. I have no illusions that I will come home a big winner, in actuality if I break even I am happy. When there, I treat everyone with respect, from the housekeepers, wait persons, hosts - everyone. These people, while working at their jobs, make my visits just what they should be - an enjoyable experience that makes me look forward to going back. Sure, things have changed over the years, but there is great value none the less. I advocate utilizing all of the great Vegas info that is available, especially the wisdom written by Jean Scott and the info from the Las Vegas Advisor, for which I have been a subscriber for over 20 years. To each their own is my motto.

True, LVA is likely one of the most comprehensively useful resources that prospective visitors have access to, partially because the site provides updates regarding several Vegas travel options regularly; Vegas sheds its skin so often we need resources such as LVA and most of us here appreciate their efforts and offerings. The Members Rewards coupon  book is but one example..still a great Vegas value deal, one which they haven't increased pricing on in years. That's unique as well, particularly now.

Also true that "break-even" is a great value to capture following a Vegas trip. I've certainly been on both ends of that gaming outcome thing, including break-even occasionally.

Since my wife isn't a fan of Vegas, almost all of my visits are guy trips. I get value from hanging out with my friends, day-drinking, playing table games/video poker and watching sports together. We invariably come home with new stories about things that happened to us. I also get a charge out of finding deals and "sticking it to The Man". Like parlaying $25 of promo chips into $400 or successfully evading the bar VP drink ticket system.

I find all of the Vegas games, with the exception of poker, to be so simplistic that I get little enjoyment out of playing them per se. Rather, I enjoy squeezing positive value out of them. Likewise, I find the Vegas environment repulsive: a bleak, sun-scorched wasteland populated by drunks and smokers.

So I visit Vegas pretty much solely to make money. I don't like loud music or crowds, and I don't drink. So the very things that make Vegas attractive to many make it abhorrent to me.

To each his own.

Thanks..don't we all, indeed. There's a few deals / positive EV plays left..but mining them out is a chore, usually.

Personally and speaking only for myself, if I considered a destination as a bleak, sun-scorched wasteland populated by drunks and smokers - I would not visit there.

Maybe he should gamble online.

@Kevin  If you don't mind the inquiry, how much of your total gambling sessions / time do you play under a + EV situation..'making money', etc? You apparently just visit for gambling opportunities. Just curious.

So, for you, it's largely just an enjoyable escape destination..with emphasis on gambling. Sounds reasonable .
