Just a point of information here. I found out that even if you have coupons for 2X points for a Tuesday or Thursday, you can if you want use the 5X points offer on that Tuesday or Thursday if you are okay with the idea of giving up the 2X points offer. This is what I ended up doing on my most recent shorter than usual trip.
