Validating the premise that comps vary in response to wins/losses

I may have repeated the advice from past years, 'never play for comps.' Recently i concentrated some VP play hoping to get comped rooms at the plaza, though it didn't work. The following, from last weekend.

This piece of info came out at the Suncoast on a back shift where the box man was plainly the supervisor-nobody else around. I witness a player ante up. with card, and ask the box why his allowed comps were down last time he checked, compared with the time before that. Here's what he was told: you won enough that your comps were reduced. The guy questioned that, and the box repeated a pretty solid line of math indicating the more you lost the more of your losses would go into comps, but winning hurt your comp balance. So, if you have ever been tempted to 'rat-hole' (my old daddys concept) black or pink chips, so the box gets a skewed picture of your wins and losses, you have a reason. And if you been tempted to stay away from joints with Radio frequency ID chips, since you have no chance to finesse them, it may make sense now. Good Luck.
I would say that people should play whatever they are normally going to play and then take (or not) whatever they have to offer you. But DO NOT play more than you normally would just to get some kind of potential comp because that could end up becoming very costly.

As for playing at Las Vegas Club to hopefully get some comps at Plaza, that won't work now since Plaza has spiffied up the place.

Now you would have to play a lot more at Las Vegas Club to get room comps at Plaza.

Even I very recently got offered the choice of two comped nights at Las Vegas Club or I could "upgrade" to a room at Plaza for an additional $25 Per Night (plus also probably 13% Room Tax).

And at Las Vegas Club/Plaza I have been told that offers to players at any time can be affected by whether they have won or lost during their most recent play (or for their play at more than one visit). And I would think that this would be even more valid if a player hit a very nice-sized jackpot there.

I also read something in another thread by Danfed saying that Hard Rock Casino has also lowered what they send out to players based on what they have won or lost.

And so players need to keep in mind that their most recent wins/losses can very well be taken into account by the casinos as to whether they will offer players additional comps.

Players do need to remember that casinos do not have to offer any kind of comps because they are actually gifts from the casino to the player which are to act as an incentive for players to play more.

The most costly rooms in Vegas are acquired freely through gambling.

Just pay for the room, it's much less expensive that way.

It took a couple of days until someone figured out how to finesse RFID chips. I think the reason they have been so slow to expand is because they are so easy to defeat.
A fair portion of my comps come from manipulating these things. As with anything, a little moderation goes a long way.

Speaking for Stations, RR specifically, my comps have stayed the same (actually got a little better) and its been an ATM for me over the last 4 visits. They obviously want their money back.
I'm with you, captain bill. I'm getting my best offers from rr after the last few trips where I've won. I figured it was because I put in more hours on those visits since I was winning!
I stayed at the MGM for 5 nights in Sept.
1 winning session in 5 days and many BIG losing sessions at the tables.I talked to my host when I was leaving knowing that my hours were way short.
He confirmed they either comp on action(Theo) or a% of loss.
I have confirmed this at several other casinos.

Having a few winning sessions should NOT reduce your offers.
Actually mine seem to work more like Lauren0363 .I play more hours when winning.
Playing for comps only makes sense if you are skillful enough to play at a lower actual loss rate than the house average theoretical loss rate. You still lose over time, but if you are doing this for recreation, it is a good way to keep your cost down.

You also need to understand comp break points. Example, you want a free room. The casino wants $100 per hand play. You can be playing $25 or $75, but still no room.
At $125, you are playing too much.

As to actual loss vs. time played, it does vary. I talked with a host at the Wynn who told me they were well aware that someone could take a hard loss vey fast. In that case they used 10% of actual loss to compute comps. My own experience at the Venetian was the opposite. I took a quick loss and they still wanted more time.

As to winning. On a couple of occasions at CET properties in LV and AC after large wins I found that there were no longer offers on the TR web site. At CP and Harrahs I asked about comps and was told "you won enough to pay your own way" At CP in AC I was even denied points added to my tier
score. When I asked about it a floor supervisor was called into the conversation and he said "you must be cheating" WTF. How did you figure that. Answer: "you were winning." Very old school attitude.
Pro,
In AC, were you playing tables? Must have been-- hard to "cheat" on machines..
I am not accusing you of cheating but I am agast they said that to you.
I'm shocked and surprised at the floor person's response- that's very "Longhorn"
The idea (I thought) was to keep the client in the casino to spend their winnings or to eat or to stay and gamble more..

I was playing the table game "Ultimate Texas Holdem". I played for about 5 hours and had a very lucky run. The next morning I checked with the TR desk to see what my points were, and there was no
addition to my account. They told me that the system had me logged in, but the points were removed.
Then the pit boss for that game was called in. He accused me of cheating. He said that I was sharing information about my cards with two other players. Of course I asked the obvious question. "I was playing and winning for five hours and no one said anything to me about being a cheater. Why didn't you talk up".

Then I got the off hand comment that I must be cheating because I was a big winner that day. "Nobody wins at that game"..

All a lot of nonsense. I am giving up on CET in Atlantic City. I stay at Borgata about once per month, have been taking a liking to the Golden Nugget, and look foward to the opening of Revel.
