A walk down Comp Memory Lane

I know it's the same guy because previous incarnations were also right-wing extremists, and had a constant and childish habit of calling everyone liars, plus the usual "ruining America" shit. Same guy.

Funny, tell you what - show up @ South Point and I will show you my ID.

The former book owner in a note said only cashback was offered, no dinner comp, but it must have existed at one time."

Barbary used to be my LV home base.  It was great if you knew how to hustle them.   They used to have BJ coupons in LVA and Casino Player along with 9/6 JB and NSUD in 3/5play.

For VP, I'd always play into the wee hours of the morning.  Once the slot club closed, slot floor supervisors had the authority to issue meal comp cards for the Victorian Room.  There was one guy last named Walsh that used to always hook me up.  I'd toss him cigars I got comped at other properties and he was always liberal with the meal comp cards for me.  Lisa Vios used to be their host/slot club manager and she'd comp me to Michael's or Drai's every few trips.

I'd also use the cigar comp recycle hustle in the pit.   Used to be a pitboss named Pat that would issue me a Victorian Room comp anytime even though the only time I played BJ was when I'd flat bet one green chip until I hit my first BJ for the LVA coupon.

The Chinese food in Victorian Room was the perfect remedy after a heavy night on the sauce.  Michael's was complete gluttony.   So good.   Personally, I preferred Drais.   I can still taste their amazing lobster ravioli.

I apologize in advance for posting on topic and not attacking anyone!

I wish I had more time back in the day to play enough there to explore some of this at BC.   One thing I think I remember reading (if my memory is correct), is that the coffee shop (Victorian Room?) at BC had some kind of great coffee cake that was offered to customers at breakfast free of charge?

Yes, they'd bring out a small plate of it with breakfast.  Small little bite sized squares...maybe 1"x1"?

Always had to get your name on the list before 10a otherwise it was an hour + wait on weekends.   Which was fine by me because then I could double dip the coupons in the pit due to the shift change right at that time.

Yes! I stayed there on several occasions, back in the days when being on the Strip was actually worthwhile, and I remember that the parking was excellent and convenient, the rooms were very nice and cheap, and yeah, you could have a great breakfast, including that coffee cake.

They even had fullpay deuces at one point (sigh).

Referencing the OP... a little IP story from ~20-25 years ago

Ahhh, they had a $10 matchplay in a couple of the coupon books for quite a while.  And it wasn't hard to gather up a fistful then carpet bomb the pit with paper on a busy Saturday night.  Some of their dealers had been on the job for a while and they 'kept their own' tokes back then.  I found one that didn't give a rats a$$ about the rules of the coupons as long as he was getting a little piece.   I'd put up a dollar toke and he'd let me and my gal play however many we had.  Then one night this Asian pitboss comes running, I mean he's huffing it, right to me.   Points at me, then in this hilariouos attempt at a threatening tone says "YOU!  NO MORE COUPON!"     Bahahaha.  Only time in my life I was backed off running a matchplay.

They also had quarter All American bartops in the Bally Gamemakers so I'd drop in a $20 and get a couple free drinks before heading out to my next hustle.

Stayed at Barbery Coast years ago. Must admit not my favorite.

my place to stay then.My choice then downtown Golden Nugget

or Tropicana on strip when got a deal. Last visit stayed at the now

Cromwell. Again not my favorite. Rooms small, dark.

on the positive easy parking.Very clean room and Casino.

Gambling took my investment. Actually very little winning this

year Las Vegas in general.Lot of taking.

Barbary Coast memories:

The huge guest room--felt like upstairs in the Long Branch Saloon.  Miss Kitty, Matt Dillon, Doc and Chester downstairs.  Huge four poster bed with big flower-dy fabric, the mattress almost swallowing me up but soooo comfortable.

Elevator opened right into the casino, the registration desk right there too.

Casino entrance right at the Strip sidewalk.  Sidewalk.

Can't recall eating there.  Must have had coupons elsewhere.

Downsides:

The tiny, tiny bathroom.  Barely space between toilet and sink.  Tiny window as well, narrow slits for blinds.  Fogged up immediately if you took a shower and who knows how long it would be to unfog.  You needed to make an entrance and exit plan to use those facilities, like the order of doing the shower, brush teeth, fix hair, etc.  Actually it would work better to use the WC last, but who can wait that long after first arising?

As mentioned, the elevator opened into the casino.  But slow doesn't describe the time it took to reach the casino floor from our second floor room.

Lots of VP machines, but they were the old stand-up kind.

Had stayed previously at the original Aladdin and had cruised every Strip casino hotel (i.e. fancy) before staying at BC.  The result was...disappointment.  Young and unappreciative of "old Vegas" feel.  This was it!

Only later could appreciate all that.

Candy

BC was the best for the time it took to park a car then get to your room.   Or from room to the Strip.  As Candy mentioned the hotel elevator dumped you right into the casino.  The triple play jacks used to be right there in that small hallway by the elevators and gift shop.   So efficient compared to everywhere else on the Strip.   I miss it.

I used to love playing blackjack at Silver City.  Comps to the cafe were great , but the free donuts in the mourning when they brought out the new cards always seemed like a victory !

Nice!  New cards and free donuts.  I never played at Silver City.
