$100 Diamond Dinner

Heading to Vegas in January and have to use the $100 Diamond dinner.  Four of us going, so we would like to get a meal to cover all four, probably a late lunch.  Where do you all recommend at a Harrahs mid-strip?

If you dine at any CZR property on the Strip, $100 won't come even close to paying for four people, unless you have just coffee and donuts (and maybe not even then). To give you an example, at the Cafe Americano at the Paris casino, basically a glorified coffee shop, a burger and fries is $24 and a two-egg breakfast is $23. If you want to go all out, fish and chips is $32, fried chicken $36. And so on. ($10 for a glass of Bud Lite.)

There are dozens of choices, so maybe if you narrowed it down to what kind of food you and your friends like...also, you should decide whether you want to spend as little as possible (over the $100) or you want to go high-end. Just realize that a $100 food credit at a CZR Strip property is like a $40 credit elsewhere.

As you might guess, I avoid eating on the Strip (or visiting it at all), but every casino has a basic-ish coffee shop, and some are better than others, which is why I mentioned Paris--the food is pretty good there. (They used to have the best buffet on the Strip, price- and quality-wise, but that was back before the Dark Times.)

I agree with Kevin $100 will not get even one person much for nice lunch on the strip. If you don't mind spending more than $100 go for it. The Cafe Amercano at Paris has pretty good food. I ate there last trip, portions are a good size.

Julie, Try Ellis Island they are one block behind strip; they have a few options including amazing rib dinner serveed after 4pm; on the strip Oceans One in Planet Hollywood mall has amazing lunch specials for $5 full menu is $5 served 11am-4pm daily!

Agree ahead of time that the overage (over $100) will be divided among all four of you.   (And the tip...Will you cover it yourself or want everyone to contribute?)   Consider that cocktails will jack your total up.  Will everyone be OK sharing that cost?   Or shall anyone who wants a cocktail agree to pony up for it separately?

Which brings up the question:  Since it is your $100 that is treating everyone else, should the overage be shared among three rather than requiring you to kick also?  Decide that ahead of time also.  Either way is fair, IMO, except I would be hesitant to have to say "I'm kicking in $100 so you three can cover the rest."

Tell the server that you will be using your Celebration Dinner to cover the tab "as far as it will go."  Expect one check with the $100 deducted, and the remainder is what will be divided.  Settle up after.

Look to entrees that can be shared.  Vegas is the land of huge portions.  Perhaps two of the group want to order a Reuben sandwich.  Likely the sandwich and sides might be enough for two to share one order.  (Hopefully you are all family or good friends for these negotiations...LOL).

Good luck and have fun!

This could all be cleared up if CZR renamed it "The $100 Diamond Celebration Snack."

As long as you folks don't require beef at lunchtime, Gordon Ramsay Pub at Caesars would be a good choice.

Lobster/shrimp rolls, chicken Caesar salad, oysters on the half shell, chop salad, chicken wings, all under $25. And they honor the Diamond dinner comp.

We each had the Diamond comp...wife used at the Ramsey pub...nothing special there.  I used mine at the Burger place between Paris and Ballys...used to be excellent, now a typical sports bar menu, but the food was actually very good.  Did pay $28 for a double captain and diet...don't do that.

My personal opinion is that ordering a "double" anything, say a double Jack and coke, is just begging to be screwed over.  My husband does it every time (orders a "double") but they rarely taste like there is double in the drink, or so he says, and I'm talking in a nice restaurant, not just the casino floor.  Of course they sure charge him for a "double".  Some people (like my husband) never learn.  LOL.

But I digress.  Pardon.

I'm not a drinker, so I guess I don't understand...why not just order two of the same drink?

If you're at the bar in a Vegas casino, and the smiling young lady sitting nearby discusses having a "double" with you, does that mean she's bringing a friend or you get an encore engagement with her immediately after the first one?

If you order a double vodka and seven, do you get a vodka and fourteen?

So many questions.
