Another Ellis Island report FWIW......

Had late breakfast (about 10:30) there last week. They were busy but only about 10 min wait (took $20 out of a nickel machine) and once seated the service was excellent. Our order was taken promptly and delivered by a guy whose sole job seemed to be running food from the kitchen to the tables. It works. Our waiter checked back with us twice including refilling the coffee cups. No complaints here.

A gem I missed before my second go round of this.. thanks!
Ate there twice last month. 1st time took sis and bro and they loved it. The kareoke coming thru from the bar was horrendous and we couldn't have been more entertained! We all has the steak special. They both vowed to come back every time. This was a Wed evening and we waited at least 1/2 hr.
A few days later we took the other sis who is used to good Alberta beef. She was a bit comcerned since the price was so low. her expectations were LOW but she also said she will return. Only a 10 min wait. Both times we had fantasitc friendly service.
And to top it off we got free play and ended up with a few bucks in our pockets. What can we say...We like it there.
we ate at ei 3 times in the past 7 days. twice for ribs, always good and the longest wait was an hour for seating. had breakfast there this morning and had steak and eggs which was great. the wife had biscuits and gravy which were tasty but warm and not hot as it could have been served. service was slow but the place was busy. for the forty minutes we were there the woman in the next table could not stop talking to her poor husband who said few words. she attempted to send her order back 3 times for something different, each time her husband said give it to me honey, i will take it. the waiter finally got her something she was interested but she continued to talk endlessly. if he was uncomfortable we were even more so. i hope they tipped well.

I read on another board the steak special at Village Pubs, same owner as Ellis, have raised the price on the steak special by $2 and dropped the garlic green beans in favor of generic peas/carrots. I wonder how long Ellis will be able to hold the line?

Tried to use them in June 2009. Was told they have been discontinued.
had dinner at ei this past sunday. we ordered the $6.95 steak and beer special. the steak was very good. the bill came in at $7.95 and not $6.95. asked the waitress if this was a mistake and she says i am as surprised as you are. still a good deal.
Yep, ate at EI for the first time since moving out here and our beloved steak special is $7.95 now. I used to say it was a deal at 3x the price, now I guess I have to say its a deal at 2x the price .

Also the bank of slant-tops near the sports book have been downgraded from full-pay JOB to 9/5. Took advantage of their 10x points on Saturdays and paid for the steak dinner in less than an hour.

Been out of the loop since they raised the price to this. Still a deal. Do they give you a choice of type of potato and veggies now or it is still the same? Anything else comparable anywhere else. Been a few years since I been and recently came back there. The help from others has been invaluable to me!
You do get a choice of potato with green beans. Also choice of soup or salad and now an EI beer comes with it. Makes up for the raise in price.
