Well, the original question was whether it was the best downtown. I don't think it is as good as Hugo's Cellar. I haven't been to Vic and Anthony's, but I would imagine that is a step up.
Having said that, I have eaten several meals at the Flame and have never been dissatisfied. I've had several steaks, the salmon, prime rib, the trout almandine, and the roasted chicken. The sides are terrific, too, especially the creamed corn. Have never had room left over for dessert. Even without a coupon, it's a good value. If you don't have a coupon, you can still eat for half-price by using your points if you're a Sapphire or higher level player.
The service has always been fine, and I enjoy it when the piano player is there. It's the way those of us who have only been going to LV for a few years imagine that it was like "back in the day".
Don't go there expecting Morton's. But then, you can eat twice there for the cost of one meal at Morton's.
