Yes, David. Very good. Gold star.

So let me ask you again, since you dodged the question the first time: was I being "contentious" with my post about why I patronize In-N-Out Burger? With whom was I arguing?

If anyone's being "contentious" here, it's you.

David's post was a snide personal attack of its own.

Obey the rules for a change.

There are no rules on LVA. If there were, you would be long gone.

Kevin only strayed from naming his favorite hamburgers to naming his favorite hamburger joints. To nitpick that minor departure from the original post is hilarious considering how total hijacking of threads occurs constantly here and everywhere in online forums.

Service and atmosphere etc. affect enjoyment of restaurant food and may influence perceived taste in addition to the food's ingredients and preparation. Knowing that a restaurant's workers are happy and well-paid may actually enhance perceived taste since food taste is subjective.

For some,  the taste of the food may not be altered, for better or worse, by the working conditions of a restaurant's staff. That's fair, but for Kevin it does make a difference, and that's fair as well.

This part of his rant was totally uncalled for and has nothing to do with the topic of the post ---"This could be due to their radically innovative move of paying them more than minimum shit wage (gasp--socialism!). You pay people more than the bare minimum the law allows, and that sends the message that they're valued--and for moi the customer, that means that I don't feel like I'm interacting with a grumpy zombie every time I order a meal, which is how it often seems at McJackKingQueenBurger."

David didn't really care about my heinous change of subject. He was just continuing his habit of making personal attacks. He seeks out posts I've made and posts gratuitous contradictions and comments that have no purpose. He has been violating the forum rules in this fashion for some time now. And his criticism for my supposedly derailing this thread is laughable, given that he's done that dozens of times and destroyed numerous discussions just for the sake of attacking me.

But yeah, I like In-N-Out for the atmosphere/ambiance, the cleanliness, and the efficiency and welcoming attitude of the staff. I consider their burgers to be above average, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for them if not for those other intangible factors. Also...more than a little bit relevant to today's working conditions, they haven't been yeeping about staffing shortages. They decided to pay their employees considerably more than the industry average. And guess what? No staffing shortage no more no more.

In-N-Out gets raves because it's a good burger at an exceptional price point.  The double-double sets you back $4 and includes fresh beef with all the customized toppings including lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and others.  You can't beat that on value.  All the other places mentioned in the thread are at higher price points - some others double or more that $4 price.  I agree with Tom's mention that high quality fresh beef prepared thick, juicy, and medium to medium rare is going to be best tasting, and most of the chain places mentioned don't deliver that experience.  Well done burgers suck.  A great burger that fits my preferences can be had at many independent bars and restaurants, but the value is found in getting it for around $10.

Sean, I agree with your stance on this subject.  Comparing a $10 burger with a $4 isn't a just comparison.

I expect The Old Homestead burger is a fortune.  We had the Holstein burger, very good.  Not sure why In & Out was on this list
