Downtown Dining notes and comments

Binions Cafe:  The single burger is now a whopping $14.99.  AND they changed the patty.   Looked, and tasted, preformed and prebroiled like a BK Whopper vs the old hand formed and in-house butchered burgers of the past.  Definitely a much, much lower quality piece of meat.   Hoping this isn't a permenant change and maybe they were just out of stock on their in-house burgers.   Oh you want cheese?  Add a couple bucks.   Want fries?  Tack on another $2.   You're now looking at a $20 single burger meal without a beverage.

Top of Binions:  Quality of the food is still excellent though prices here are also up quite a bit.  No grief using the 25% LVA coupon with my comps.   Great way to stretch your comps even further.

Siegels at EC:  Staffing was an issue last week and there were frequent waits.   Food was above average coffee shop quality but they suck at making crispy bacon.   Prices here also up quite a bit.  A $25 comp barely covered Two Egg Any Style breakfast with a coffee!   The monthly food comps are no longer valid at Eureka or Sushi Ichiban.

PopUpPizza:  Among the best slices downtown but on Mondays it's now a whopping $1k coinin to get the free slice promo at Plaza.

Triple777:  Happy to report they're now open 4-10p and 4-11p on weekends.  FINALLY seven days a week.  Was dead on a recent Tuesday at 6p.   Food and service still good.  MSS guest volume in general was very slow.   Maybe the weekend business is sufficient to keep the lights on but it's not looking good here.

Jerrys Nugget:  Maybe the most underrated coffee shop in town.  Always try to get here once during a trip.   Came up on a Tuesday for their 5x points and $10 meal comp promo.  Watch your back walking through the parking lot and around the porte cochere.   Never a shortage of sketched out crack/fentheads in the area.

Other random notes...

Golden Gate has delinked the 8/5 progressives and cut the overall number of good machines by about half.   They also moved one bank near the doors by the Plaza which means there's no shortage of riff raff that will now be walking by you.  Again, watch your back.  Oh, carry earplugs too because these clowns are still blasting the god awful calvin harris laptop songs at volume level 100 regardless if it's 9:30a on a Wednesday morning.  Why, just why on a midweek morning can they not turn the got damm music down...maybe just a little?

Plaza Sand Dollar Bar wasn't open during the day midweek while I was in town.   Not sure when they open but definitely wasn't before 4p any day I was in town.   Bummer because I wanted to play with the LVA RF coupon.

Silver Sevens:  The longtime 2:1 blackjack coupon now requires slot club validation first (after NOT requiring it for the past decade it's been in the book) AND the limits are now $15 instead of $25.   I sat down at the table and started flat betting $25 not even reading the TnC of the coupon since it's been the same for a decade.   Took over a shoe, and $300, to hit the first BJ.   Pitboss then tells me the LVA coupon needs to be validated first and it's $15 max.  He takes pity on my ignorance of the new terms of the coupon and pays the 3:1 for $25.   Very nice gesture and a lesson to me to ALWAYS read the terms of the LVA coupons even if it's been in the book for years.

Overall the value of Vegas just continues to go straight into the toilet......

Yes LVA still best deal.  Others I've used the the past gone bad.

example the worst entertainment book. Followed by Groupon.

Glad to hear you got your reward. Seems like everything now

requires going to rewards booth. Lot of extra steps. I am a senior

Lot of unnecessary gate keepers.

Lots of great info, I don't know how I missed your original post.
We've never tried the Binion coffee shop burger even though we always heard good things of it, now I guess we won't know.

Pretty much the only place I'll eat at downtown is Magnolia's, and it definitely ain't cheap any more--but at least, comps are easy to earn and the VP is still good. I used to sidle over to the California and have their saimin soup at the coffee shop, but it's been a while. Used to be $6. It's probably $14 now.

Vegas is pretty much not worth bothering with any more.

Appreciate this post.  I agree, the Jerry's Nugget coffee shop is a real hidden gem; rough neighborhood, but a fun casino and good, honest (not frozen, pre-prepared) food.  Yeah, MSS is dead; the buffet is a huge disappointment as well, there were maybe 5 tables occupied at noon when we were there and the food was mostly dried out.  That Binions burger has been pre-formed crap for about five years; I miss the old ones.

On our visits to Vegas we always notice how prices seem to increase from trip to trip, and laugh at how people complain about them. Being from the midwest let me tell you prices back hear have gone up also. Retraunts, fast food places grocery stores everything has gone up , and not just Vegas. We stay away from the highend places while in Vegas, and it does not cost us anymore to eat out there than it does at home. I might add that we don't eat out at home that much anymore because of the cost. Besides my wife says I am a darn good cook, by eating at home it gives me more $$$$ to spend on our various vices.

Magnolia's and Hash House A Go Go are our two lunch/dinner spots when we go downtown.  Can't wait to use my MRB coupon for Magnolia's next week.

Thanks Boiler, Appreciate it.  Gonna head downtown next week Tuesday for an epic coupon run and then lunch at Magnolia's.  Wife wants to also hit the North LV Outlet Mall over by World Market, and then finish off the day with a first time visit to the Rampart Casino.

While definitely not Downtown, I'd add Emerald Island in Henderson as a good place to eat it you have a car and want to feed several people inexpensively.   Can be worth the trip, particularly if you do an LVA MRB coupon run.  They offer a wheel spin and meal bogo.  Can get two eggs, bacon, home fries and toast for less than $6.  Add about $2 for coffee and your good for the AM.

I recomend the pastrami hoagie.  It can be enough for two people.
