Du-Pars temporarily closed

Restaurant received 62 demerits during a Feb 28th inspection.

This one hurts for me to read. Dupars is one of my favorite spots Downtown. I live here and am a Dupars regular . I deal with the management in a friendly way all of the time. I am confident that they will be on top of their game in short order. The staff could not be any nicer . I have noticed that the Golden Gate is getting more and more busy all of the time. I would not discourage any one from patronizing them. When something like this happens it is for the good in many cases. Dupars>>>>you still have my business and support. I have had far to many wonderful experiences and great memories at the counter and the booths to jump ship over a matter like this. See you this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really do enjoy their pancakes.Hopefully this closing will be short term and they will clean up their act. With the deli closed,it looks like no shrimp cocktail for awhile.
It was apparently a very short close, as it was open yesterday morning. I imagine it was probably only closed for a couple hours while corrections were made.

The date of the closure was 2/28 and it was reinspected and reopened on 2/29.
Definitely good food but overpriced IMO.

Places that charge a big premium for basic food should not be having problems with the health department. If I'm paying $12 for ham & eggs I should have piece of mind that I'm not in any danger of getting Samonella.
I look at it the same way as pjstroh.

How long was there a problem before they were inspected and caught? Just because they corrected the problem in one day or less does not mean the problem just came to be. Whatever it was could have been lurking there for a while.

I liked it better as the Bay City Diner or whatever it was called before, but that is just me.

There is probably a way to find out exactly what was found to be a demerit and then one can decide whether you want to eat there. 62 findings is not insignificant to me.

Yes, I too would like to know what the problems were. I'll ask them on my next visit.

However, it remains my favorite place to dine downtown.

For many years I dined at their flagship restaurant in the Farmers Market in Los Angeles.

The food is always very good and if you sit at the counter, there's never a wait.

Comps are easy to attain and the management
is going the extra mile these days.

Try their beef stew...only available in their
GG outlet.

DuPars was closed for the following violations:

food handlers not their washing hands, spoiled food, food not stored at the proper temperature and food not protected from potential contamination

They've said that the renovations put extra stress on the restaurant workers, thus the problems. All I know is that when I'm stressed I still wash my hands.

FYI: They were reinspected the next morning, given a grade of A, and reopened.
How can they open the next day and ensure employees wash their hands after the inspectors leave?

To me employees don't wash their hands in a restaurant, they should not work there period! If management let's them stay, I stop eating there. It is a hiring and respect (or lack of) of the customer issue who is eating the food they touch. I am sure others do it, but I do not know about it. But if you get caught you get caught and if you do not dump the employees, there is an implied acceptance of the practice by management in my humble opinion.
