golden nugget buffet. waxing nostalgic.

when I first started going to vegas, nearly 20 years ago, there was just something special about going to the GN buffet. it had a little class about it, but not too pricey, and good service. it was a small dining room on the main level, always a line, and the food was good. one of the best buffets in vegas, downtown or otherwise. back then it seemed almost all of the buffets had bread pudding, but GN's was the best. it was a must do on every vegas trip for years. I was just wondering if anyone else feels the same. the last time I tried the buffet there, maybe 2 or 3 years ago, it was -- well... unremarkable. please share your thoughts.
I had heard great stories about their buffet for years but we never go downtown, then 3 years ago we did and tried it, we have not been back. It was very average at that time, maybe it was just an off night.
I agree Vegasdev. Thier buffet was outstanding. The two restaurants upstairs, Lily Langtrees and Stefano's were both excellent. Loved the cioppino at Stefano's...best in town.

Since they were bought out Landrys, it has gone downhill...gamingwise. They took away all the earned comps from the locals. Never went back.

The Golden Nugget buffet was my favorite place to eat downtown. The last time I ate there before the change, one of the chefs walked around handing out copies of the their bread pudding
recipe on Golden Nugget embossed paper........ a cool way to remember the buffet.

I agree with the above opinion that the current buffet is quite unremarkable.
Totally agree Vegasdev.
"Unremarkable" is a compliment for that buffet. Much better when Steve Wynn owned it.
I remember going there (even after it was renovated upstairs) and having that great waitress who would sing. I would always ask to sit in her section just so I could her sing. And if you asked her, she would belt out a tune or two (... of course, this would automatically get a round of applause from other guests seated around you). It has been several years since I have visited the Golden Nugget Buffet and I am unsure if she still works there.
