How is the Steak n Shake at SouthPoint?

I'm going to be staying at SouthPoint Jan. 27th and 28th, and since I was last there they opened a Steak n Shake. The only thing I know about that chain is that it was one of Roger Ebert's favorite eating places in Chicago.

Has anyone tried the food there? How did it compare to In 'n Out or Fatburger?
Steak n Shake is an excellent burger place for the money. Not much more money than McDonalds, but the food is very close to In n Out. The service is also very good. The shakes are better than In n Out.
They are all over the midwest. Have you been to Johny Rockets? Pretty much the same thing only Steak and Shake might be a little cheaper. And its almost impossible to buy a newspaper without finding coupons (at least in Indianapolis) so keep an eye out.
Thanks for the info - I'll keep an eye out for coupons.

I love SnS simply for the shakes (you can combine two flavors and they come out separate within the cup, not mixed). The food items are ok, but I wouldn't go out of my way for them. Fast food is so subjective that everyone has their favorites - I'd put 5 Guys burgers over SnS, Fatburger, and In n Out.

One word of caution: around lunch and dinner time that place is packed and there's a line. I'm not a line person so I've gone elsewhere when I see it, but it doesn't appear to move very quickly. SP's amenities attract a lot of families and you'll see a lot of them eating there.

My wife and I went there this past September. We enjoyed it. We really liked the shakes. If you go between 2pm-4pm the shakes are half off(at least they were in September).
Since there are none in MSP, we go there every time we go to LV. Expect a 20 minute wait. Don't be shy, make it either a double or triple burger as there paper thin. We choose the malts-excellent. If you know of anyone in another state that has S an Shakes, have them mail you a coupon sheet as we usually get the malts free with our meals-savings around $7-8. I think its the only one in LV.
As Jokare mentioned the burgers are paper thin. I'm no expert on burgers but to me - the beef they use actually tastes good. I think they use a higher quality cut than some other places. We always get doubles. And, I like their fries! Don't know that they are anything special, but they are always hot. For us its a quick cheap meal & we always enjoy it.
I live in NC where there are quite a few. They are usually running a $4.00 special for a burger, fries.... Pretty good overall but since we have them localy, usually my first stop is In N Out.
