Kid-friendly 'nice' restaurant?

Our son is turning 8 and we plan on being in Vegas for his bday. When I search kid friendly places it's pizza and burger casual places. Obviously Michellin star places aren't necessary either but he isn't a toddler. Is there such a thing as something in between? We don't want to waste a gourmet meal experience with a kiddo that wouldn't appreciate it but still want to make it a special occasion. We've done steakhouses in the past. Would love suggestions as the restuarant options are endless! Thought of a buffet too but would like to have a dessert brought out with a candle for him, etc. This will be his first time in Vegas. We're from Chicago so Rainforest Cafe is out as he's been there countless times.

Mon Ami Gabi on the outside patio.  Not terribly expensive, he can enjoy watching the traffic (foot and car) and the fountains across the street.  I suspect they might bring the dessert with a candle, but ask ahead of time if it matters.  It is very busy at the dinner hour.  Find out what you need to do to not stand in line for an hour to get a table on the patio.  The "atrium", which is just inside the outside patio is good too.  But he'd probably enjoy the patio.

Thank you so much! We are familiar with that chain, we have it here too! That may be just mid range enough and i do love the idea of a fun setting. the candle thing isn't as crucial. I can have one in my purse and stick it on a dessert myself obviously! I just needed this narrowed down. So many options! Hopefully weather will be comfortable for patios in March there.

If it happens to be cold when you visit (March in Vegas can be iffy), Mon Ami operates those warming thingys on the patio (and spray cool mist in hot weather) which do make a difference.  I can't emphasize enough that in Vegas the patio is heavily requested, and it can be an hour or two wait.  Go there to check it out ahead of time, best time to show up for a patio table, etc.  I can't recall if they take reservations.  Good luck!

I'm sure he would enjoy the view from the top of the world restaurant at the Strat, a little pricey and fancy but if he is a mature 8 he might enjoy it, then after dinner you can take him to the observation deck. 8 might be to young for the rides though.
