Last visit I got some kind of soup made with coconut milk, oregano, and chicken. It was pretty friggin good.
The soup was likely tom kha gia. I am sure the buffet is good, but it is primarily Chinese and you are going to miss the essence of Lotus. Order a daily special or off the Issan (northern) menu if you want a memorable meal. Almost everything is delicious, but avoid dishes you can get in ever Thai restaurant like Pad Thai and go for something a little different.
Some dishes that are recommended include:
Nam Kai Tod
whole barbecued catfish
drunken noodles with sea bass
Nua Sao Renu
kang hung lay (northern pork stew)
BRAISED SHORT RIB with PANANG
Sticky rice with mango for dessert
