On our recent trip to LV we headed to Mary's Hash House on Decatur, one of our favorite local spots for breakfast, only to find out it has closed permanently since our trip last fall. Does anyone know the reason for the closure? I've searched high and low on the LV Advisor web page and have found nothing to note it.
I remember reading a story in the local rag about the closure. Apparently, they barely survived covid, then they were having profitability problems when local business didn't return to former levels. The outlying location meant that only locals would visit, and with the casino withdrawal symptoms post-covid drawing people to locals' casinos for breakfast, etc. (despite the local version of The Gouge), they struggled.
But the crusher for them was escalating costs associated with higher wholesale food prices, thanks to the Trumpiffs that started in early 2025. They couldn't fade that, and the option of raising their menu prices to compensate really didn't exist in the cutthroat market that is local Vegas.
Keeping a restaurant alive can be brutal in any market, but it's especially tough in Vegas, with the casinos drawing away potential customers, and usually offering a myriad of food options.
It's too bad--I really liked that place. The hashes were terrific, and they had nice touches, like all the different flavors of jam made in-house, to elevate your toast experience.
