As big of a disaster that our meal at Carlos n Charlies at the Flamingo was (see separate post), Nove Itlaiano at the Palms was a HUGE suprise and wonderful experience. We decided to take a chance that Garduno's will be open in late July when we go back to LV, and since we had three other Mexican/SW restaurants on our itinerary already, we decided to try the Italian restaurant at the Palms and use our $50 MRB coupon. We had reviewed their menu online at home and had an idea of what we might like to try and saw the prices, about $27 to $45 per entree. Again booked a reservation on OpenTable, went at 8pm and were greeted at the podium just off the casino floor by a young lady who confirmed our reservation and told us to walk down the hall, to the right and take the elevator up.
Elevator???
Did not know that it's on the 51st floor of the Palms. Only 3 buttons on the elevator; Nove, Playboy Club and Rain. Greeted by the hostess as we got off the elevator by name.....nice touch. Took us to our table. What a view! It faces the other Palms Tower, and we could see people out on the outside of GhostBar across the way. Since it was just getting dark the city was lighting up and made for a great view. Wish we could have scored a window seat, but they were taken already. I actually moved from across my my to next to her, as we were seated at a table for 4, so I could enjoy the view with her. Do they REALLY the MRB coupon here????
Waitrer comes to table, takes our drink orders, tell us the specials. Patti shows him the MRB, "Just tear it out for me, thanks, and I'll take care of it for you at the end". REALLY? HERE???
Asked if wanted an appetizer, but we figured that we would pass and save room for dessert. Brought a basket of Italian Bread, Foccaccia and a breadsticks. Breads were dissappointing, just ok. The breadsticks tasted like Goldfish cracker..........and I like Goldfish crackers. Waiter brings the drinks and then 5 minutes later brings us some appetizers, "compliments of the chef" Eh, buddy, I'm here with a coupon ya know. There were two each of a fresh vegetable bruschetta and Salmon Tartar, served on two tablespoons bent so they stood up. Liked both.
I had the Veal Nove, four thinly pounded scallopine ($42), with a light breading in a garlic lemon sauce, covered with a thin layer of prosciutto. Absolutley delicious. Very tender. We split and order of the brusssel sprouts in brown butter and chestnuts($10). Crunchy, not soggy, and so good, and a huge portion. If you like brussel sprouts, you'll love these.
Patti had the Nove Spaghetti ($43), which was a two color pasta with lobster, crab, scallops, shrimp and basil. Chock full of seafood.....you DO know we're using a coupon right chef? Patti made me try one of the scallops and as soon as I tasted it, I looked out the window to look for the ocean that they just pluck this out of. Never had such fresh tasting seafood..........and we're from New Jersey, so we see a fair amount of fresh seafood. Then the past, the second color of the spaghetti was a dark color, but it's a little dimly lit in the room so I couldn't tell the exact color, but the taste was really, REALLY good. It tasted familiar, but I couldn't place it. We finally asked the waiter, and to our surprise, that one was made with SQUID INK! The familiar taste was calamari. Had we seen squid ink on th emenu, no she wouldn't have ordered it, but if we see it again, we would! Waiter told us, the chef changes the pastas based on what he has and what he feels like making, so if they don't have it on your night, don't blame me, but if you love seafood and seafood flavor and freshness, this is a dish for you.
"Dessert"? We're both stuffed.........too many breadsticks, waaaay too many brussel sprouts. No can do. We did look at the dessert menu, but I can't remember what was on it. Told waiter we'd have to try one next time we're in Vegas. He then tells us to come on a Tuesday........Ladies Night, ladies entress are 50% off! Hebrought the check, bill was something like $115, less the $50 MRB, so we owed about $65. We left him a $25 tip.
Bet you can guess where we're going for dinner on the Tuesday night during our July trip!
