Portillo's coming to Vegas

Just saw it in the LVA newsletter.

If you aren't familiar - they specialize in Chicago street food:   hot dogs, Italian Beef, polish sausage sandwiches.   And they serve'em up in a highly themed venue that looks like Al Capone's bootlegging hideout.

It was always one of my favorite things about living in Chicagoland.   They came to Indianapolis a few years ago so I dont have to road trip to get them anymore.   THey used to also have alot of pasta dishes but they scaled back their menu when they decided to go national.   Thats a bummer because their raviolis were insane.

That's good to know, because there were two places, one on Rancho and one near downtown Henderson, that served great Chicago dogs and beef sandwiches, but they both died during the pandemic. I wonder why there isn't such a place inside any casino--it would be mobbed (that Coney Dog place next to the D is only so-so, but it's always busy).

I also wonder where you can get those "sport peppers" that are indispensible to a good Chicago dog, as shown in your image.

Damn, now I have to find somewhere near me that has Chicago dogs. Lunchtime!!!

They have one near me when I am working in Vegas; will have to try it out.  Wished they had the Chicago deep dish

The local supermarket here (in the midwest) carries jars of sport peppers. La Preferida brand. Can't have a Chicago Dog without them.

I had a Chicago Beef at Portillos last time I was in Chicago. Would certainly try one in Las Vegas once it opens.
