Red Rock Buffet review

Yesterday 8/30, Friday, we brought a guest to Red Rock Canyon and then to Red Rock casino for the lunch buffet.

Lines at 12 waiting to get in were enormous. Couldn't figure out why except that there was a BOGO coupon when you swipe your boarding pass. Thank goodness for the President boarding pass which bypasses the lines. Only 3 people ahead of us in the President/Chairman line. Used the BOGO and paid for the other 2 with points (President discount is 50%) so cost is very reasonable.

However, the food was mediocre at best. Lots of mislabeled/unlabeled/empty dishes. Looked like they were very understaffed or maybe just overwhelmed by the crowds. Server said it was unusually busy too. Also the start of the holiday weekend.

I've made a couple of Red Rock buffet visits in the last several years and have had the same impression as you. Don't travel to go to it. Don't go if you're looking for something really good. I rate Aliente's above Red Rock, though I know people who swear by it. They'll drive from Henderson to go.
I swear by a lot of buffets. Has nothing to do with the food but rather loosing lots of money in the slots nearby. Nevertheless, I do swear by them! Seriously, having worked at Red Rock for a number of years when they first opened, the buffet was new and good at that time but declined in quality after about a year. It has also been far surpassed by the new kids on the block (M resort and Wicked Spoon at Cosmopolitan).

Long lines have been the reason I've eaten at the coffee shop instead of the buffet on my last couple of visits.

I usually eat the breakfast buffet and it is a great value. Since I play a lot there, my buffets are comped.

The last couple of times we've been out there, the line was incredibly long, so we just go over to the coffee shop also.

Have to admit that the service overall at the casino has dropped considerably since it first opened, so it's no longer a "must" for us when we go to Vegas.

I'm the last person to discuss quality since I'm pretty non-picky about my food and I can almost always find several dishes I enjoy at any buffet but I have to admit that overall the quality at RR and GVR have declined since Stations lowered the prices. Maybe that stands to reason: the beancounters determined that Stations could make more by lowering the prices and offering less expensive dishes. Ergo, you get bigger crowds, some of whom would never have visited with the former prices. I'll still go, but will do a quick u-turn if the lines are too long. I've learned from Westie to have a Plan B (and sometimes a Plan C!).

yep....as far as GVR is concerned, quality is way down. Was just there 10 days ago to eat a lunch buffet when they were having their 2/1 deal. At 1:30, the wait in line was an hour and a half.....crazy.

Needless to say. I didn't stay.
