reno eats

we just signed up for the national bowling tourney(hit the music) in Reno the week of March 14, 2011.
first time I wrote 2011 for something. St. Patty's day is 3-17. I will be flying home with a headache.

We're staying at Harrahs. I have four nights for $80 total and another teammate is Diamond and will
get one, hopefully two rooms comped.

Last time in 2004 we stayed at the Peppermill, and it was great. I will be going there this trip.

all right. reno eats. Where to? Is there something like Big Al's Oyster bar here? The noodle bar
at Harrahs looks good. Also the Asian place with all you can eat sushi, etc. Any good buffets? Any all I can drink because I can bars? any Batistta's(sp) where we can get pasta (a good base) that's not terrible?

We need fans. Come on out.

Not a Reno fan for a long time, but something I looked forward to when we bowled in Reno was a meal at Sterlings in the Silver Legacy. I quit after 2004, so I don't even know if it's still there. It's fine dining, but casual wear is fine. The food and service were both very good. If it's still there, give it as try.

Good Luck!

I spent a lot of time there last year, if you're a Mexican fan, Bertha Miranda's on Mill Street was a favorite stop for me. Atlantis' buffet was very good too. There's also a great coffee shop, Purple Parrot, and Italian place at Atlantis. For pizza, Nu Yalk PizzaMoana & Kietzke, or Pirate's Pizza across the street from Atlantis. My colleague ate at the Sushi place at Atlantis and enjoyed it there.
thanks so far

There's an oyster bar at Atlantis a lot like what you find in Vegas.

My favorite restaurant is Brew Brothers (I think that's the name) -- brew pub in The Eldorado, second floor, and it seems to be in the Silver Legacy.

What TB said.............yes, BB is only 50 steps from Silver Legacy, on the Mezzanine,
inbetween SL and ElDorado.

Well, you know me.........I'm usually at J.A. Nugget in Sparks, which is a stones throw the other
way from Reno downtown & Peppermill. Think of a Triangle shape. DT Reno-Pep-Nugget.

If you're renting a car Wayne? Visit J.A. Nugget. As it DOES have an Oyster Bar, and it
has an Excellent Noodle Bar *Noodle Hut" OMG, the Pad Thai bowls there are superb.

Also, their Buffet is one of the best in town.
Thanks again TB and C

It's only five months away. Think I'm rushing it? I get goofy like
this when I have somewhere to go. Especially when it involves
Gambling!!

Yes, we'll have a van. Two of the guys might go skiiing at
whatever that mountain is that's close by. Not up in Tahoe.
Wayne: the aforementioned sushi place and oyster bar place at the Atlantis are basically the same restaurant - you can sit at either the sushi bar or the oyster bar - or you can sit at a table and order from both menus. Nice place, it sits right over South Virginia St in a glass enclosed skyway.
More restaurant suggestions: at Circus Circus, they have a combined sushi and bbq place - food is pretty good even if it is CC. If you want to go back in time to the 70s, try the steakhouse at Western Village (I've heard the vp is excellent there but haven't played it myself). Lots of plush and the food is great.

Seeing as you will be staying at Harrah's while you are in Reno, there is a hole in the wall slot parlor across Virginia St from Harrah's call The Nugget.

At the very back of this very smokey slot parlor is one of the best greasy spoon diners around! They have a burger there called the Awful, Awful that needs to be seen to be believed.

Here is a link to photo copies of their menu...

Enjoy!
Greetings -
We stay at the El Dorado or Silver Legacy and have found there to be many great dining choices there. If you've not been, find a map of the downtown hotels/casinos and you'll see the El Do, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus are all basically one HUGE casino - never have to walk outside to go from one to the other.

At the Silver Legacy, there's a great bar called Drinx, with the best bartenders we've found in the city. Across from this bar, you will find Fairchild's Oyster Bar - good food, and here's a link for your review: http://www.silverlegacyreno.com/dining/fairchilds-oyster-bar/

At the Circus Circus they have an all-you can eat sushi OR sushi and Sashimi deal for as low as $17 for lunch sushi only, to as high as $28 for the all you can eat sashimi - both have to be eaten at the sushi bar and they give you one hour.

For non-sushi guests, they're in the same restaurant/area as the pizza place (YUM) and a BBQ place if that helps! Once at lunch, it wasn't crowded and they permitted me to eat my cheese pizza at the sushi bar! Very nice!

Also they do 'to go' orders, but probably not on the specials!

There's a great breakfast joint called Peg's Glorified Ham and Eggs that is probably less than a 3 minute drive from the SL/ED/CC complex - might even be able to catch the free Sierra Spirit bus for most of the way! They have amazing food - crab cake benedict for about $12.00 and it filled my husband up and then some. They also serve brunch/lunch items, that all looked delish! Give it a whirl!

If you're in the mood for good greasy cheap food, head over to The Nugget downtown and get the Awful Awful - for about $7 you get a big burger and a full POUND of fries....that's just simple good nighttime chow!

Enjoy and feel free to ask more questions should they arise!
