South Point Buffet-and a tip

Very happily surprised when we stopped in earlier this week.Evrything fresh and tasty. Great prices.

A tip. When we saw the hours -till 10am for breaffat then lunch starts at 11-we assumed they stopped admitting for that hour.

In fcat we paid just before 11am and stil got the breakfast price- and was told they start the change at 10:30 and you can smoothly move from breakfast to lunch at the b'fast price.

That was always a classic "frugal" trick (as in, espoused by Jean Scott), and also used to work for the lunch/dinner changeover at most buffets. However, all of the ones that didn't die from the pandemic now slam the door shut for an hour. It's nice to hear that South Point doesn't do that. Yet another reason to go there and shun the Strip megatoilets.

Has anyone else had the experience above?  We are planning a trip and a breakfast buffet at South Point using the member rewards online is on the schedule.  I think it's risky given that the coupon states 'breakfast' and the hours for breakfast end at 10.  I'm wondering whether it is common that they keep the line open or whether this might have been a one off.  I'm traveling with night owls who sleep late, so the extra time to sleep in the morning would be beneficial, but not at the risk of not getting the coupon and breakfast pricing, and even worse by getting there when they are not replenishing food because of the arrival time.  Would love to hear others' opinions/experience...does the buffet close between breakfast and lunch and when do they change out food.  Thanks in advance!

They stop replenishing items at about 9:30, so if you get there then, you might not be able to get all the items you like. If I'm in that situation, I make it a point to get the food that has to be prepared in some way first, like a live omelet station. At 10:00, pretty much everything gets taken away, and fairly quickly at that.

If you're staying at SP, you can get a twofer for the buffet in their coupon book. I'm sure you know that the pricing is better if you have a player's card, so allow extra time for the uncardful (that is so a word) members of your party to sign up.

I ate at the South Point Buffet this past Monday. Arrived and got in line at about 10:30 am. They do not close the line between breakfast and lunch. Paid at the cashier at about 10:45 and got the breakfast price. Most of the breakfast items were gone by then.

Well, if that's true, then the Frugal Buffet Play is alive and well! "Breakfast" at 10:45 it is!

Any opinions of the overall quality, especially in comparison to previous visits?

Not in 2022.   There is no buffet coupon in the funbook this year.

I have been eating at the South Point Buffet for lunch about twice a week since the summer of 2020 and sporadically before that for years. I don't think the overall quality has changed much at all in that time period. In early April they changed the daily menu. I have not seen bok choy for lunch since then but they added baked swai every day and also small boiled potatoes so I'm happy.

I was late and asked if I possibly could still use coupon They said yes

but was half off lunch price

We haven't been in about 6 months, (we usually stay at South Point for 4-5 days) but the key for us was finding a time when the line wasn't 2 miles long.  We don't eat buffets any more unless we have a coupon or some kind of discount price.  And I certainly won't stand in a line for any more that 15 minutes.  So we'd just wait until we noticed the line was short or make a note of when it was and go at that time the next day.
