Love those dogs. Good point in the article about tips, if the dogs were $1 each. I usually get two ($2.50) and give the girl $3.00 and tell her to keep the change.
Actually, if I buy just one, I tell the girl (/guy) to keep the 75 cents change. I buy two, I tip the same (and yeah, if I don't have a quarter in my pocket, I might give a dollar.)
One busy football afternoon, I was standing in a substantial line for my dog and idly calculated the amount of money the server was making. I saw $6 in tips tendered before I got to the front of the line. It made me think, maybe I'm in the wrong racket :) The server probably does at least as well as a waitress in Slimy Sam's Steakhouse. After all, it takes less than a minute to serve a hot dog customer. Even a fifty cent tip multipled by 60 is $30.
I hope the hot dog cart never goes away. It's a smart move to have it there. There have been times when I've tried to decide what sportsbook to go to to watch the game(s) and I've said to myself, hey, at South Point, I can get one of those great hot dogs. I suspect a LOT of people come to South Point just for that (and maybe stick around and blow little Johnny's college fund at the crap table).
Statons casinos always put them out on NFL sundays. $1 dogs, $1 chips, $2 buds. So thats 2 dogs, bag of doritos and a Bud for $5. Thats cheaper than the Costco food court.
Other places have them too but usually not for $1. El Cortez charges $2.50 I think.
