The Stage Door - An Excellent Dive Bar

Hey LVA'ers.....

I am sure I am preaching to the choir, but I thought I would share a tip/insight/fact......

If you are after really cheap drinks, and I mean cheap drinks, then you need to check out the Side Door Pub which is located across the street from Bally's and in the same parking lot as Battista's Italian Restaurant.

We are talking about drinks for as low as $1 and call brands of liquor cost $3 - $5 per drink. They don't accept credit cards. I was staying at the RIO for a convention and had been socializing with some of the fellow attendees at the casino bar (and paying $7-10 a drink).

We decided to check the strip out and I suggested we go for something a bit more value orientated. We headed over to the Stage Door Pub and one of the guys said he would cover the 1st round of drinks. After getting our drinks, he handed over his credit card. The bartender told him that they only accept cash but "... you'll be happy with our prices.". He handed over a $100 bill and was expecting little change. But, when he counted his money the round of 8 drinks cost him about 17 dollars!. Needless to say, a bunch of these first timers to the Stage Door enjoyed it so much, they came back the following night.

Heck, they even have a hot dog and PBR beer for $3. The crowd is a real mixture of tourists and locals. There is nothing fancy about this place, but if you want a cheap drink and you are in the vicinity, you need to check this place out.
Thanks for the tip. We'll have to check this out next time we go.
That place is always packed. Its kinda funny. Its really just a convenience store - its like the owners just woke up one day and decided to throw in a bar and some VP machines. They seem to have their own cult following. I've never spent any serious time in there beyond using the store.
We love the place, inexpensive, blue collar, my wife hit a .50 Royal Flush there, it is busy most afternoons and loud.

Our favorite bar. My friends and I never miss a stop here. There is a card of the day promo. If you get a 4 OAK with that card you win a prize. The card has always been the 8 of diamonds. I won a Bluetooth speaker by getting 4 eights one trip.
It is a true melting pot of Vegas between locals and tourists. One of my first stops when I arrive in Las Vegas. Just remember folks that this is a dive bar! I have been in there when a wonderful couple from Minnesota or Wisconsin (can't remember which) wanted to save the empty seat next to the Mrs. because she didn't want any "lowlife" sitting next to her. Asked for a menu and what were all the toppings available on the hot dogs and how were they prepared. Remember folks what this bar is supposed to be and why it's so popular.
Well the worst has happened. They renovated the dump! New flooring, cocktail tables where the grimy video poker machines on the north wall used to be, uniforms for the bartenders, no card of the day, no hot dog rollers! The place was full of hipsters and is now dead to me. Pour one out for the Stage Door.
This is very sad news! Obviously, they felt they could make more money by doing so. That being said, the place was always busy but I guess it was busy with extremely low spenders (like myself).
It sounds as though from a report in the Advisor that prices have gone up too. We'll all have to pass judgement on how the changes are received. kind of wondering.... How did they get the flooring up?
Hi All...I was just there, and, yes, part of the bar has been "renovated" (if you can call adding a few "cocktail tables" a major renovation). The main bar area is the same, and the crowd was as "eclectic" as ever when I visited. Final analysis, a little change but to me, the same overall feel.
