Top 3 downtown restaurants

Have to laugh! If "food and beverage is their liveryhood" (meaning Landry's) their buffet (OK doesn't matter how I spell it, it just doesn't look right!) SUCKS!!!!

We were regulars at the Golden Nugget, starting with Steve Wynn and hanging in there through Tim and Tom. One of our favorite places to eat was Stefano's. Carson Street Cafe was usually a pretty good spot too. The Buffet was a regular stop for us.

Once Landry's took over... oh my!!!! Everything went downhill. We were very perplexed because Landry's being a food and beverage company... how could they screw it up? Well, they did!! The buffet has WAY less choices than before and the quality is poor.... Carson Street isn't as good.... sigh..... oh for the good old days!

Landry's actullay has almost destroyed Carson Street Cafe' they have fallen to sub par. The Buffet is a bigger disappointment it started bad and has went downhill from there. We stay at the GN 6--7 times a year and rarely eat there with the exception of Grotto's and Vic and Anthony's (one time each stay) Those tow places have been excellent. Have not tried the Charter House as of yet.
We're downtown people. You're not going to find any celebrity chefs or high-end luxury menues like you will at the better properties on the Strip, but we enjoy the old-Vegas vibe of the restaurants. For something nice, I'd put The Flame, Ranch Steakhouse and Second Street Grille (in no particular order) at the top; I'm also fond of Redwood Grille. I love everything about Hugo's except for the food, which is kind of disappointing (odd thing to say about a restaurant, but it's more of an experience than a good meal). For cheaper options, Aloha Specialties is my absolute favorite (mom-and-pop Hawaiian food). Thai Vegas and the Kebab Korner are also good.

I do have a question, though. I often read the various threads about the best steakhouses in Vegas, or even the best steaks downtown, and I think this is the first time that I've seen Vic and Anthony's mentioned. I always wondered why nobody mentions it. Is it good? Better than the plain old Flame or the Ranch Steakhouse? Overrated?

I have to agreee with this statement wholeheartedly. The feel is very old school rat pack.. PRE rat pack in fact! but the food is very secondary. I did take my rose back to the room and felt like i did something special for dinner but it sure wasn't the food, weird as that sounds. Glad it was comped. Glad I was with a group of folks i adore (ECLVA) but the food at 4 Queens pub was better.

If you read my post, I never mentioned the buffet or coffee shop.. I was talking about how Vic and Anthony's, The Chart House and The Grotto were good restaurants. The topic was "Top 3 downtown restaurants" and I replied accordingly IMHO. If your favorite downtown restaurants are The Buffet and Carson Street Cafe and Stefano's (which closed year ago), then good for you.

Thanks Greek, I'm glad you liked Vic and Anthony's and The Grotto.

Gee, when did we start laughing at other people's opinion.
Thanks everyone for the responses.
Haven't been to Vegas in 4 years. What are the Top 3 nice restaurants in Downtown Vegas? Thank you,
We've eaten at The Grotto four times in the past three years. Everything has been very good and service excellent except one time, when it was just OK(she may have been a new waitress). Love the Bruschetta for appetizer. That's the only place we've eaten at downtown(stay on the strip), so I don't have three places.
Hugo's
777
2nd Street Grill

I eat at all 3 almost every trip.
I gota agree with jstewa22 and Suecasey. I've been a LVA member from the beginning of the news letter and good and cheap always beats good and expensive. My three picks are:

777 Brewpub
The Flame
2nd Street Grille
