Top 3 downtown restaurants

Binion's Steakhouse
Redwood
Aloha Specialties
Glad I'm not the only person who appreciates Aloha Specialties (and if you're still hungry, Lappert's for ice cream is right across the corridor). Hate to say it, but Island Sushi at the Plaza is giving them a run for the money; I like the food better, it's a more extensive menu, fairly good sushi (for downtown), and I love the poke bar.

Hey Group,

Speaking of Island Sushi, when I last visited Plaza in March (I just told the powers-that-be at LVA about this), I saw a sign in front of Island Sushi for a Food Challenge-- the "Loco Moco Challenge" which seems to involve a 3LB. Loco Moco Pattie along with 6 Eggs and 6 Scoops Of Rice to be eaten in 45 Minutes.

So check into that if you're interested!

We haven't tried many of the restaurants at the GN. The buffet is ok, not great. Carson Street Cafe is ok.

For buffets, we like Main Street. For steak, both Binion's and The Flame at ElCo are good. The Flame is a little less expensive. Hugo's is good, but expensive and it's very hard to get a comp. We like some of the things at 777 Brewpub at MSS, others not so much

I think one standout downtown is Dupar's at the Golden Gate. Breakfast is about the best I've ever had. The lunch and dinner entree's are also very good. We eat there at least once during every trip, even though we don't have any comps at the GG.

The Nugget not the same since Steve left. It used to be my Vegas anchor, getting those tickets out of the VP machines and then turning them in (hardly any needed, relatively speaking) for a spectacular free dinner at the Italian restaurant with the singing waiters. I think that Thai restaurant across the street from the El Cortez is pretty special, informal, fun, and amazingly tasty. Food at Roberta's/Flame is very good, but ambiance is suckish. Hugo's has always been an experience. 2d Street Grill may the most innovative downtown food. And the Pasta Pirate and Redwood at the Cal are both good, comfortable, inexpensive. I used to love to watch the crazy chef behind the glass at the P.P. He was there for years. (Island Specialties always worth a lunch.)
I had dinner at the Chart House at the Nugget. It was good, but I think you'd get more for your money at McCormick and Schmick. I realize that is not downtown. The only reason I mentioned it is that the same company that owns the Nugget owns M&S.

I like the Flame and Hugo's really well.
