Waverly's at the Cannery

Mrs. Don got a $100 comp at last Thursday's VIP swipe. Any recommendations on what to order?
Their lamb chops are to die for! Everything there is good, actually -- steaks, prime rib, seafood, etc. Choose the au gratin potatoes with your entree (a choice of potato comes with most entrees). I highly recommend the spinach and strawberries salad (big enough for 2 to share). The crab soup is excellent, but then so is the french onion soup. The bread is also terrific. And, they have wonderful creme brulee.

When you make your reservation, ask for Frederick to be your server. Tell him Sue Casey recommended him, lol.

I'm taking my sister there for dinner next Wednesday. Can't wait! Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks Sue!
We ordered halibut as our entree this past Sunday evening and were disappointed because it was overcooked. Otherwise the food, ambiance and service were very good.

That's interesting, Westie, because I believe Waverly's is not open for dinner on Sundays. Just their brunch, which ends at 4 p.m. Did something change?

Anyway, I've never had the halibut, but I have had salmon there, and it was wonderful. And they're very good about substituting if you are not satisfied with something. I would have sent it back and ordered something else.

As a side note, one of the servers (James) at Waverly's passed away suddenly last week. He had been there since the beginning. The staff is like a family, and everyone was so upset that they closed the restaurant for one day (not sure if it was Thursday or Friday -- I believe he was buried on Friday).

Nothing changed, I got may nights of the week messed up, it was Saturday night. I would have sent the halibut back but we were tight on time because we were seeing Legends of Motown show that same night.

My sister and I ate there Wednesday, and it was wonderful as always. She especially raved about the crab soup! She also had the 16-oz. prime rib, which was perfectly done and tender, and au gratin potatoes. I ordered the special mid-week prime rib dinner, which is $25.99 and includes shrimp cocktail, chopped salad, a 12-oz. prime rib, yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach, au gratin potatoes, and chocolate mousse for dessert. YUM!

I had a margarita, she had a cosmopolitan. When she ordered a glass of wine with dinner, Frederick comped that.

I used a restaurant.com coupon, plus a comp from my host.
