What is a "well drink?"

I know this sounds simplistic but what is the difference between a well drink mentioned on LVA coupons and cocktails such as frozen margaritas? Is the difference whether the bartender has to reach for ingredients from the back shelf? What are the practical limits of drink choices on the coupons?
Yes, there is a difference....price. If you go to a liquor store you might notice that Grey Goose Vodka sells at a considerable premium to the stuff in the plastic bottle =)

The bar keeps the plastic bottle crap in the well so as not to advertise the cheap hooch they are serving you in the well drinks.

As far as I'm concerned the more a cocktail is diluted with mixers the less I feel a need to improve the liquor quality. EX: I'll take the cheap tequilla in my margarita. But I want premium Makers Mark whiskey in my Old Fashioned.
I'm definitely a sweet vs alcohol sort of drinker so well drinks will probably work for me
They should be called "I don't feel well drinks" because you will feel like crap the next day after drinking them. In 'well " drinks they use the cheap crap stuff that will make you not want to get out of bed the next day. The kind of cheap $4.99 bottle of vodka we bought in college, before we knew better. Good Luck

The bar selects the brand of alcohol in a "well" drink. The opposite is a "call" drink. You ask for the brand of alcohol by name.
That makes sense. Thanks
"Well" drink is the opposite of "top shelf". Yep, the good stuff is kept on the top shelf and the cheap stuff is kept low (in the well) and out of sight of the customer.
