241 Downtown

I just looked at the FSE coupons that expire March 31 and saw a 241 buffet at MSS.

Our MRB has a 241 at Golden Nugget buffet and I have read where people say it is good but over priced for what you get.

So mainly for dinner, since we be downtown only for an evening, who has the better buffet, GN or MSS? What about Breakfast or Lunch since we are talking about it?

We will not be there untill Sept, and I'll have to see if the MSS has been reactivated.

GN dinner buffet is better than MSS. MSS has gone downhill since Dec IMHO.
MSS breakfast is good - and a great deal even without coupons.
If you have a BConnected card, all MSS buffets are discounted.
Again, IMHO - avoid eating at Fitzgeralds - REALLY bad food, service and ambience.
A good restaurant, in all respects including price, is Magnolia in 4 Queens. Join the Players Club and get a 2 for 1. That is 2 prime rib dinners for $9.95, and decent size glasses of wine are only $4.00 each.
Golden Gate does a decent Prime Rib.
Restaurant .com has a coupon for Flame Steakhouse in the El Cortez - it is good.

Hope this helps

Yes.... Excellent..

TY.........

I believe that MRB for GN is for breakfast or lunch, not for dinner---but I don't have the book at hand.

I have never eaten Breakfast or lunch at the Golden nugget so this post is based solely on dinner buffets.

It sucks! The buffet itself is smallish, not a lot to choose from, the room itself has the atmosphere of an airport buffet (cattle call) and like everyones says.....its over priced.

for what they charge, I would only eat there if I had a 2 for 1 coupon, was drunk so my taste buds were not working, and I had won enough in the casino to pay for the one buffet that I was actually paying for! Hope thats not too over the top?

On the other hand, the $35 show "and" buffet deal at the nugget "is" do-able, in fact I am doing it in May. I just go into the buffet before the show with really low expectations so I am not disappointed. Both shows that go with the buffet deal are great by the way. Gordie Brown and the country superstars tribute show are a great shows.

I have not eaten at the MSS so I cannot opine on it, but might I suggest the "Fremont's" buffet? it has a decent buffet coupled with a FSE, 2 for 1 coupon makes it a great value. It also has what I think is the coolest "old vegas" atmoshphere left in vegas. Go to the Fremonts web site and look at the pictures of it.

In fact, you can go to the golden nugget, take the escolator up to the buffet and just take a peek in the next time you are there, then go back down stairs and with a 3 minute walk you can take a peek at what the Fremont's buffet has to offer. I think just the visuals and picture taking opertunities will help you make up your mind

Just my humble opinion weggie

I took a look online of the virtual tours for the GN and Fremont Buffets.

The Fremont is very impressive visually. If the food is better, then it's a no brainer. The GN looks boring.

Thanks for all the great info. This will be our third trip to Vegas, and what we have learned is, sometimes coupons are not a good deal and not to chase coupons!

We'll be downtown for one night and based on the info here, we will skip the GN 241 coupon, looks like too many other good choices to pick from.

We are stating to lean towards splitting trip #4 50/50 between strip and downtown, depending on trip #3 visit.

Sure the Strip has glitz, but downtown looks like a great stay/eat/gambling value. When on the strip, we do very little gambling there and venture off for our night play at the Gold Coast and the Orleans. So why not play in the area where you stay, and downtown looks like the answer.

Thanks for the great responses!

Just looked at the coupon detail, says for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You sure have to be careful with these coupons. Some of them I have scratch off the list once I read the fine details, just not worth the hassle. We are here to enjoy Vegas, not chase coupons. Yes, use them if we can, but not to go out of our way for the purpose of chasing coupons, period!

I made that mistake the last two Vegas trips and made our trip somewhat miserable at times.

We used to stay exclusively on the strip - almost always at a MLife property.
Now, shorter trips are all Downtown
Longer trips are 1/2 Laughlin and 1/2 Downtown
