$5 fee from Golden Nugget for Fremont Street Experience

Starting in July, the Golden Nugget will charge a $5 fee per room per day for the Fremont Street Experience. This is so ridiculous. Fremont Street is FREE to anybody that wants to enjoy it and now the Golden Nugget is charging for this whether or not people even step out of the casino. If they wanted to charge an extra $5, then do so in the form of a $5 increase in the room rates and nobody would notice or care. Golden Nugget proudly states that they don't charge resort fees. Oh wait, this isn't a resort fee. This is a fee for the free Fremont Street Experience. Luckily for me, I won't have to pay this fee on my upcoming trip because I already booked my rooms before the fee was announced. The FREEmont Street Experience is supposed to be FREE!!!
Don't ever ever call it Freemont St. I made that mistake years ago
and got blasted from a very cold poster from Alaska, I still get " Chills "
up my spine thinking about how I put in one extra e and it made someone
go Bizzerk !!
I put in the extra E at the end of my post to make a statement on how crazy it is to be charging for something that is free
I can understand, though not agree, with the GN charging a resort fee.
But how can you charge a Fremont St fee, unless you actually own the street.
As I understand it, they are not the only ones to chip in for the Fremont electricity bill!
And - everyone not staying at GN can enjoy Fremont St at no cost - it does not make sense on any level.

I think that that's just rotten of GN to do that! Again, why not just jack up the room rate another $5 if they still want to do that thing?!

Hahaha....that's funny and cheap at the same time.
Good thing I'm paying for my stay there next month with Private Arrangement points.
THis is definitely nickel and dime stuff but I think they are throwing it out there to see how much flack they get. My guess is that if it flies, other downtaown hotels may join in.

GN may look at it from a different perspective. I am sure that the downtown hotels pay for the "Experience", including all of the maintenance/when they change shows so they may look at this as a way of recouping their costs.

I used to stay at the GN many years ago when Steve Wynn owned it, put up with the changes of the young bucks when they owned it but can't deal with Landrys. I think they should stick to cooking.

A resort fee by any other name...

Their argument is ridiculous. Yes, they do contribute to running VivaVision (as do the other downtown hotels), but it's part of their marketing strategy, and it's therefore overhead. It would be analagous to McDonald's adding 15 cents per sandwich as an advertising surcharge, plus 25 cents as a personnel surcharge, plus 5 cents as an energy surcharge.

Bastards.
