Amazing lack of discussion

I just am amazed at the lack of posts on these forums.
After the Boyd announcements we now have Derek Stevens buying the Girls of Glitter Gulch, Le Bayou, and Mermaids. I would presume to close all of them and redevelop and enlarge the Las Vegas Club. Could it be that we will see a major demolition and then a really big and extremely overdue new construction project downtown. If so could this be the beginning of the end of downtown as we know it? With a brand new resort I can only imagine expensive food, nightclubs with bottle service, swimming pools with day clubs, and really bad gaming aka the Strip. Maybe instead of the building of the North Strip could we be on the verge of a building frenzy in downtown Las Vegas. I could imagine someone imploding the Plaza and replacing it with a shiny new resort. How about the empty lot used for parking behind the Cal and across from the Main Street Station? This could be extended to the old bus station and right up to the Mob Museum. Could it be a Mafia themed casino? I could also see redevelopment anywhere between and including the 4 Queens all the way down to the old Western. Is downtown on the verge of a big building boom or am I just over imaginative?
you are right, not much chatter anymore other than the political CRAP. we already know that Mr. Stevens like resort fees. we don't need another hotel downtown with those nasty fees. or another casino downtown with way too loud music. I hope whatever becomes of the LVC, it will be unlike the D and the GG.

One thing I like about DS is while he likes the shiny, new and fancy, he still keeps a nod to the Downtown Fan. Look at The D. He could have tried to make an expensive competition to GN, but kept it catered to the "drinking/gambling" fan with the Long Bar and the Vintage Slots upstairs. I 100% think he will bring a pool scene and club vibe to these new spots, but I would like to think (and hope) he realizes people come Downtown to get away from The Strip.

marko.
I'm getting to old to listen to the "thump, thump" of the music in the D and the Golden Gate. Actually two of my favorite plays at the Fitz have now been eliminated by the D take over. The bank of quarter video poker machines that had 8-5 bonus and other good games where if you hit a four of a kind you got a steak dinner left first. Many of the machines were moved up stairs, but the free steak dinner left. The most recent casualty was the loose deuces nickel machine that paid 101.7%. I would play $20 on that machine every trip and usually lose my buy-in. I finally hit quad ducks about two years ago, then later the same year hit a royal on that machine. At least they brought in Sigma Derby.

As for the Golden Gate, I use to love to play black jack there. I can't stand the music there now. I loved the piano bar and the 99 cent shrimp cocktails. Just shows, I'm getting to old to be the target group now....dang.

While I'm on the cusp of being outside the "target age" (37), I do agree about the music. I actually don't mind the thump and noise at night, but at 10 am, as I'm just getting started (or hurting from the night before), they don't have to crank it all the way up.
However - I 100% agree on the GG Shrimp and Piano Player. I wish they would have remodeled that part instead of renovating it all together. The live piano player was a nice nod to classy Vegas, but classy Vegas doesn't attract millennials.

I feel bad for the employees that have to listen to that blasting music for an entire shift. at the D, an hour or so is about all I can take.
And I love to look at beautiful women just like any other red blooded American male. However when I'm gambling, I really don't want those distractions too. The concept of young ladies dancing on tables should be left for Industrial Street, not in the casinos.
I agree about the lack of discussion in general on this board. Nothing like the old days. This subject is discussed on the Free for All Forum.

Good Luck!

I hope that this move will not start the beginning of the end for good and reasonable stuff in Downtown LV. That could make more people stop going there. I guess the question for some people could become how much value will be there if prices get jacked up.
I was *just* thinking earlier today about the lack of discussion on the boards and wondered if that's due to people not going to Vegas as much, which means 1) They don't have as many experiences to share/post in relation to other people's questions/comments/concerns and 2) If they're not going to Vegas as much, are they not seeing a value in getting the supped-up membership which gives them access to these message boards. On the other hand, I also wondered if when I was new to these boards (circa 2006), maybe everything was so new to me that it seemed like a ton of people were posting, replying, etc etc.

At 38 years old, I for sure am not the target market for The D. But I have to concede I do like GG's Blackjack and the girls (I like the girls at The D too, to be clear) but the thumping of the loud music starts to hurt my chest after a while. GG seems a bit quieter (compared to The D). Ultimately, I'm a fan of $5 double deck blackjack that pays 3:2 at MSS! Add in those amazing free craft beers and you know where to find this guy most nights!!
