Are the changes Downtown running off the older Gambler?

Attempts to enhance the allure of Fremont Street and environs significantly predate Tony Hsieh's recent upgrades and improvements. And while I enjoy the area for the relative accessibility and historic significance, I welcome almost any improvement that will make downtown Vegas more vibrant and competitive. Slotzilla offers no appeal, however.

On a related but separate topic... I find the occasional panhandler no more annoying than porn slappers or timeshare hawkers... or those dismal knock-off costumed characters. (Although a "gauntlet of beggars" might dissuade me from walking the walk.)

How about a gauntlet of nasty meth-addict-VD-Hookers? I lost track of time on my last trip and ended up on Fremont St at 3:00AM. Most everything was closed. Fremont St was completely empty except for about 10 of the nastiest looking ladies you've ever seen...and they all wanted to tag along with me. I could have used a can of Raid.

I usually reply to the hookers politely no thank you, “you smell like insect spray”.

The problem we found this last trip is that the noise and rowdy crowds are in the casinos as well. The Golden Nugget where we have been staying at for years is now attracting the party crowd who are at it in the rooms until 3AM in the morning. Also pounding music plays in the casino 24 hours a day, even at a 7 A.M. checkout. The rooms also reflect neglect on the owner's part. They do not seem interested in attracting gamblers anymore. It is very sad.

I think that's an exaltation of nasty meth-addict-VD-Hookers. But to answer the question, I would prefer to avoid such an encounter.
(I love Fremont Street, but 3:00AM would probably find me at Encore)
