Been 10 hrs since our last trip to Vegas...

As the topper says.... it' been 10 long yrs since the wife and I last visited Vegas. Teenage kids will do that, lol! Planning a trip in July (I know it'll be HOT!). Also... this is my 1st time as an LVA member. Table games are my thing, same with the wife... but she'd just as soon sightsee. Meeting up with the family (9 total), including my 80 yrs young mom. Planning on staying downtown.... we used to be regulars at the 4queens long ago. Understand the noise levels... was hoping the south tower, high up, would be quieter. Also stayed once at the old Fitz (now D) and it looks interesting. Any advice on noise levels with a downtown restriction? It'll be my son's 1st trip and he wants to see everything!

I get the impression that comps are drying up all over Vegas.... finally at a point where the wife and I can make 1 or 2 trips a year.... and Vegas was always fun for us. For low rollers.... what is a decent path to comps?

Already do the MyVegas thing... and the MRB looks very promising. Any tips/tricks for us?

If anyone is sensitive to horrible irritating noise, then avoid the whole bottom level of the "D".

We are back downtown after 10 years on strip, gambling, comps, & convenience better downtown. Request room away from from fremont Street will cut down on noise. Get club cards at all casinos, comps downtown are good,at 4 Queens , TheD, & Downtown Grand, ok at others. Sometimes you have to be firm with boothlings. We always buy Ls Vegas Advisor Reward Book, costs $50ish, much more free slot, food, & match play than that, recommend it. Other comps available on line, do research. Rooms at 4 Queens & TheD are adequate . Heading back Feb 11-16.

Its pretty hard to find quiet rooms downtown anymore.  The Container Park keeps El Cortez pumping loudly through 11pm...and the highway keeps the hotels at the other end noisy...and Fremont activites boost the decibles everywhere else.

The California is probably you best bet if you want a quiet sleep...or maybe the boutique hotel where Gold Spike used to be.

PS - comps have dried up over most of Vegas but I think they are still pretty solid downtown.   They are definitely generous with future offers if nothing else.

I mostly play 25 cent video poker, and the 4 Queens comped me 3 nights earlier this month, and they are comping me 3 nights over Super Bowl weekend along with tickets to their viewing party in the Canyon Club with free food and an open bar. That works for me!

Outstanding!

1st stay in Vegas was @ 4Q and I have fond memories of the place. This was back before the "Experience" (82). I miss the Horseshoe, :-(, and $1 blackjack as a regular table. Always had good luck there. I keep hearing pretty good things about El Cortez as far a gambling and comps go. Never visited the outliers before but the wife, BIL, and I are going to check them out this time around. Orleans sounds interesting, any other decent ones.... for gambling? BJ and Pai Gow are my favorite table games.... but I've been known to toss dice every now and again. Binion still have 10x odds?

Orleans has turned into one of my favorite places in Vegas.Plenty of $5 blackjack.Buffet had a recent renovation , little more expensive now, but still good.Good variety of other food options.Plenty of large bars if you play any video poker.I get room comps, don't consider myself a high roller.

In my experience by far the quietest rooms in downtown Las Vegasare at the Plaza facing the railroad tracks. While yoo will hear the railroad when it comes by other than that you will not head a sound.

You are correct about the Four Queens south tower high, get inside room, not too noisy.

Stayed at the Cal twice recently had high room on garage side in new tower, was quiet before not anymore. The Lad Vegas Club had acted as a sound barrier to the Fremont Steeet Experience so you now hear this all night. Also construction next door during the day. Had a second stay in the old tower asked for quient room. Not too bad.

As far as comps goes 4 Queens is the best for low lowers, earn.3125 back in cash and double that in food. Mailed offers have not changed in years.

American Casino Guide book and LVA coupon book well worth it if you use all the downtown coupons. I was very lucky the las trip and netted back over $300.00 between the two. Four Quuen coupons very valuable.
