Casinos Holding Your Money Hostage?

I guess this is normal, but its never happened to me. Yesterday I took advantage of a few comp nights at the Golden Gate. They asked for my credit card to hold $100. I assumed if that was just a deposit but she said they would evaluate my play at the end of my stay to rebate the $100.
I may be wrong, but it sounds like they hold the money and if I dont play/lose at least $100 then they keep it to cover the room. Im not worried about it, because I easily play/lose more than that, but it just seemed odd.

Marko..
I've not heard of this before, but what you are saying could be what Golden Gate is now actually doing and if so, I do not necessarily like that idea.

I say this because it may be that (although I'm only guessing now and have no idea why they are doing what they are doing) you may have to lose $100 before they will let you get your money returned to you (although it may also be that you may have to play through $100 on the machines and/or buy in for $100 for a table game and then play that amount through at least once before you may get that $100 returned to you).

That may or may not be the worst thing because this may be a way for them to make sure that a Player is not going to give them no play and therefore stiff them.

And so they may have a point to doing things in this manner.

I figured the same thing, but have never seen/heard it before. Im going to email her today to clarify. Ill let you know what she says.

In my Humble Opinion....Thats Bullsh-t!

Apologies Coach!!

Ok, got an email back from one of the hosts at GG. She said it indeed was just a deposit incase of damages or stolen property from the room and nothing would be charged. She made it a point to say that they never require guests to play and the room was a full comp.
All better now, good folks at the GG. Now Im even more excited about my trip.

marko..
LOL I would be MUCH more offended if they said it was to cover what I damaged or stole, rather than that it was to guarantee my level of play.

Well that's good! But I do want to remind you to ask for a room away from the Fremont Street Experience unless you don't mind all of the noise that comes from being right next to the street day and night! I did experience that once many years ago and if I ever stay there again, I absolutely will not stay in a room facing the Experience!

What about Plaza and Sabreena? She is around (I just heard from her today).

I've stayed at GG a few times & always ask for something away from the FSE. I have stayed right on the noise before and it was rough. But I managed.
I did talk to Sabreena and she had a few offers, but comped trumped them all.

Marko..
Ok, I get comped room offers from them most usually two comped nights Sunday-Thursday but occasionally more.

Actually when I stayed at Golden Gate, it was before the FSE was open (it was in 1996) and it was still extremely noisy there facing Fremont Street.

So they would have someone assigned to rate the play of everyone who used the comp? Seems a bit, um, backward, to me.

You could post a photo or two of the room, for those interested.
