Downtown

We are arriving in Vegas in September
Only stayed downtown once we are going for 10 days would like to split up the stay between downtown which my husband likes and the strip which I like.
Have researched downtown hotels and would like to know which is better and what rooms are the better deal. Between Fremont Hotel, and the 4 queens. I read reviews but you never know. Would like to hear from people who stayed here
Thanks

At Christmas we stayed in the Gold Tower at the Nugget but did most of our gambling at Four Queens.
Great Casino with the best drinks service downtown. Also good deals in the restaurant. We liked it so much that we went to reception and asked to see a room (for future visits). The room looked comfortable and had a small flatscreen tv. No armchairs or sofa to to wacch tv you would sit on a hard chair or on the bed. It looked clean and the bed seemed to be comfortable with good linens. I would stay at the Nugget again - but if Four Queens comps me I will definitely stay there.
So - not as good as the Nugget - but not bad at all. Also remember - the Nugget has a GREAT pool - which may be important.

Well between Fremont and Four Queens, I definitely prefer Four Queens. I say this because not only did I find shutters in the room (that was bad for me since I prefer to have as much darkness as possible when I sleep), but also the bathroom was so dinky that the towel rack was at the back of the shower.

I also should tell you that I stayed at Fremont about 7 years ago and so I don't know if things have changed there since then.

Yes, the rooms at the Fremont are tiny. Especially the bathrooms. The hotel was built in the mid 1950's. For the same money, you can stay at the California which IMO is a bit nicer. Larger rooms, anyway. But really, they're all more or less the same. Except for the Golden Nugget which is a noticeable step up, for only a few dollars more.

Between the two that you asked about, I only have experience with the 4Q. I've never had an issue there and they've always treated me very well.

If you're not going to gamble for comps, it really might be worth it to pony up a few extra bucks for the Nugget. I think you'll find the amenities there more to your liking, if the reason you prefer the Strip is for the fancier hotels.

I've also stayed at the new Plaza a week or so after it opened and was quite impressed with the rooms.
I stay at Four Queens almost every trip. Not as luxurious as Golden Nugget, but much better VP, so I can earn free stay without taking a major hit to my bankroll. As far as the Fremont, I've played there but never stayed there, but from what I've heard, 4Q would be much safer bet.
Stayed at the Fremont once and didn't even finish our stay there. It took us 3 rooms to finally get a clean one (I'm talking with a made bed and no trash in the room), Never could get maid service after our first night there and when we complained to the manager got told to bad , its a weekend go try and find a room now". We did find a room "comped" and left. Stayed a the 4Q's a couple times and while it is nothing fancy at least it is clean and have a nice staff. Be sure to ask for the tower that is away from the Fremont Expericence--much nicer rooms
