Downtown Grand Experience

During the middle of March we received nice offers from the Downtown Grand for two nights with some food credit and gaming credits. Our trip for March 29-April 4 was already booked. We already had our March days comped for Southpoint so we did not get to use the Downtown Grand's offer. We stayed the last (April) nights downtown at the Golden Nugget. During that stay we wanted to get some play in at the Downtown Grand hoping to receive future offers.

Since they don't have much to offer in their VP selection I headed for the craps table and the spouse went to play blackjack. Their table games pit is not terribly large. But we both had the same experience. After 30 minutes the pit boss had not logged in our players cards. And no site of a cocktail waitress. It appeared that floor people were all playing grabass next to their computer podium. We asked the dealer several times if we could get logged in. To make this happy time even better we were both getting our butts kicked by the dice and cards.

We finally picked what remaining chips that we had and headed to the cashier. Keep in mind that this was mid day during the week, so the place was empty. My wife mentioned our disappointment to the cashier lady who asked us where we were staying and quickly summoned the casino manager. He was very nice and offered an apology and wanted to comp us dinner. But, we declined since we already had dinner plans. We also told him about the March offers arriving in the middle of March. For us out of state folks we don't have the flexibility of these short notice offers.

We would still like to like stay here at least once as we have stayed at many of the downtown casinos. But, we did not receive any offers for April. Anyone have any better luck here with offers or experiences?
I too was disappointed at how late Downtown Grand has been about sending its mailers out. I contacted DG about it last month, and here's an email I received back.

I first apologize that you received our March Offers so late into March, I can however extend your offers into April if that would help you to redeem them. Unfortunately at this time we cannot email the these particular offers, but starting in June we will be sending out mailers that will cover up to three months of offers to help accommodate our out of town guest. We are very pleased to hear how much you like The Downtown Grand, and we truly appreciate you choosing to stay and play here with us. If there is anything else we can do to help you or if you have any other questions for us, please do not hesitate to contact us. Once again thank you for choosing The Downtown Grand.

Respectfully,
Jilian Lopez

So it looks like there's hope on the horizon.
Good news! I played in March and have heard nothing since. Was hoping to make it a nice stay downtown.
Got my free room, matchplay, dining coupon, and free gift offer in the mail today. Will be there one night in May. Anxious to check out the pool and the redesigned diner.

pjstroh, what did you get on what type of action? When I get mine I will post as well. Did $10K in a day back in March playing VP at the bar.
I'm not sure I'm a high enough roller to get any serious attention at most casinos. My only prior play at the Downtown Grand was 2 nights this past December. I played craps and slots mostly. My average craps bet is between $10-$20...Did about 1k of "coin in" on the slots.

I dont think my mailer was anything beyond what every previous guest gets. 2 free nights, $10 slot play, mystery gift at the players club..and dining coupons. I'm hoping the coupons are in addition to the ones you get with the funbook they give you at checkin. I will see.
In late March we joined the club and got as I remember $3 in free play each. We played that along with $10 each in one of the pathetic VP machines. As I recall we actually broke even when cashing out $20. This took all of about 15 minutes and we then headed over to Fremont. In the mail last week we received exactly what pjstroh got. The Grand valet is a good place to park but the Grand itself was not a good place to play VP. I would not mind staying there however if the stay was comped.
I played on a x10 points day, which brings the JOB almost up to even. There are worse plays!
I'm not interested in the place. Their video poker is horrible and I can get much better plays downtown.
I was there in FEb. signed up for the players card, ran $10 thru a machine and got the same as everyone else.. 2 free nights, free play and food credit. Hoping the offer might still be on the table next winter. Simplest "get on the radar" EVER!
