Downtown Grand Giving Up

Right now, Downtown Grand has closed its pit. Only 4-5 tables willl be resurrected, relocated to the tiny former high-limit area. Lots of glum faces, with staff saying this is what the new management wanted.

This place seems likely to soon be just a slot parlor.
I sure hope they can make it. im sure it is hard for a new place to find their groove. I like having the option to go there, as I don't care for plaza, the d and golden gate would be ok if they would turn the volume down on the music. I stayed at the DTG 2 nights this month, I liked the room and really liked the pool. the check-in routine did not go well, my room was not ready until after 4. ive never had that problem in vegas, and the middle of august is not a busy time. I did not gamble much there, so that probably wont help their case. my favorite table game these days is pai-gow, and they don't have it. I could have played some 3-2 BJ but I got busy doing other stuff. if it does become a slot parlor I hope they continue to send the free room offers at least.
They can kiss their players goodbye if they kill table games. Did they see what happened to Vegas Club when the tables closed? The latest LVAdvisr says gambling revenues downtown have been going up...so this is a bit surprising.

I just hope they are still keeping tables open long enough for me to spend my matchplay there in November.
It really is pathetic. DG had a GREAT product, but clearly couldn't market for s**t. This one is on management.

Horrible.

I think you are correct. lady luck survived in the same location for years, so location is not the sole issue. and we don't need another mermaids / la bayou.

Agreed 100%. I really enjoyed the DTG this summer. Cool vibe, the staff was always friendly and the pool was a plus.
However, after playing a good bit over the past few trips (some big wins and losses), I never once received any offers or coupons. Im still getting stuff from Flamingo despite not playing there in years.

marko..
Mark your calendars - I totally agree with Chilcoot.
i still have an offer for a free room up to 4 nights in sept/oct/nov. I was thinking about booking Halloween weekend or the weekend before or after. I hope it will still be there.
I loved Downtown Grand, but then went on my last trip and the place was different. They f***ed it up. That place had great potential, still does. They close the pits, forget it.
The location of the Downtown Grand is still the problem. I was in Vegas early Sept. staying at The California and specifically went to DTG because I knew it was there. My girlfriend, who is quite observant, stated that she would have never come here because she didn't know it was there.
