Downtown NYE Party - Report...

Anybody ring in 2013 downtown? How was it?

We did. I had a bad cold so we didn't get there until fairly late. I don't think that the crowd was as large as they forecast - but it was cold. Bands were really good, canopy presentation was good. I did not expect real fireworks under the canopy - they were really impressive. A great party atmosphere - we left at 1:00 a.m. Wristbands were $40.00.

Curious, as I have never experienced a NYE in Vegas, how big is the FSE crowd? Are we talking wall to wall people from the Plaza to the end of the canopy? Or, is it large clumps mainly around the stages?

What does the $40 get you? How do people not just walk in and out since the street has so many openings?

They forecast 30,000 - didn't look that many to me. The $40.00 ($30.00 for locals) gets you 9 good bands on 3 stages playing from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. A 15 minute year in review canopy presentation which was excellent, and a fireworks display inside the canopy running at the same time as a canopy presentation - it was good. Mayor and Oscar did the countdown. As a bonus most of the really annoying people who hang out on Fremont are absent - almost certainly due to the price of admission. Fremont Street is totally closed as is the front of every Casino - security on every door. You can enter a hotel from Fremont without being checked but Security will not let you back onto Fremont unless you show a wristband. I asked how someone gambling but not taking in the show could get from 4Queens to Binions. I was told they would exit the back of the 4Queens, walk all the way around the back of the hotels and enter through the back of Binions. The area blocked off is everything under the canopy.
