DT Solo Trip..

My annual DT solo trip is booked!! So friggin stoked. This year, my schedule has me coming out the weekend of July 20th, taking advantage of a few comp nights at the GG.
Im excited to see the new Plaza and the renovations to the Gate. Hopefully, I can talk my way into a suite for nothing else than to take a look around. I also want to see if all the positive reviews of the "D" are true. I am already thumbing thru the MRB making my schedule as it fits with the coupons. I Will be sad to not have the Western anymore, but, I'll survive.

Im saving my pennies, switching to PBR and $2 Chuck and no more Ga Lottery Keno games. I gotta save up for Vegas baby!!!!

Marko - I am stoked as well for my next DT solo trip July 2-9. I love going with friends, but solo is still the best. Staying at the Plaza, and can't wait to see the changes downtown. I also have two comped nights on the strip for the 4th and 5th, so not sure yet where i will end up those two nights. I am a huge downtown fan, but might have to be a traitor and watch fireworks from the strip. I will crash at whichever place is closer when it's time to pass out!

PBR and $2 chuck? Haha! I am thinking about switching to Milwaukees Best and "pink slime".

Oh and I will let the GG bartenders know you are coming so they can stock up on PBR. Enjoy your trip!

This will be my 5th solo trip. I was a little cautious at first, didnt know if I would have fun or would feel "out of place" alone, but in the end, it was great.
I love to gamble late night (around 3-5 am), its less crowded and the dealers are more friendly.
Im gonna take my wife to the strip in early 2013, but for 72 hours this summer, I get to do any and everything Im not supposed to do here. Drink too much, sleep in, gamble, eat crappy food, etc.
Gonna be perfect..

Yes, I like late night play as well since I don't have to worry about crowded tables and can get better rules hopefully (at least for Blackjack) as well!

nice to hear that there are others who love there solo trips as much as me. I will be downtown as well and I've been saving for quite some time. Looking forward to exploring Fremont St East. The game plan is to try and get a drink at each bar.

Make sure you check out Vanguard Lounge. It was a small, but hip bar and the bartender was cool and suggested the best drinks and even offered samples of some new cocktails he was creating.
It does get a little full after dark, but happy hour is a good time to stop by.
For nostalga sake, go hang out at Insert Coins. A video game bar that has about 50 old school stand up arcades (think Dig-Dug, original Simpsons, Galaga, original House of the Dead etc). They also have booths you can rent (I think) that have PS3 and XBox systems on flat screens.
And while its not Fremont East, if you havent been to Hogs n Heffers, its just what you would expect. Biker bar, full of smoke, hot bartenders that dance on the bar and $4 PBR.

Hey Marko,

Do you know whether at Insert Coins there is a Cover Charge or a Drink Minimum or can you just come in and play some Video Games if you so desire?

When we went, it was no cover & no drink minimum. Then again, it was right at happy hour, so they could have just opened. It wasn't very crowded.
Drinks were about $6 for liquor and $4 for beer.
Some of the arcades were as low as .25 cents.
Good times.

Marko.
Marko - I plan on checking out some of the E. Fremont bars as well. What kind of crowd does Insert Coins and Vanguard attract? In real life I am a 39 year old accountant in a suit, but in Vegas I am a shorts and t-shirt wearing tourist with a beer in each hand. I am comfortable talking to anyone, but don't want to go to a bar where I stand out like a sore thumb or look like a complete jackass. Trust me...it has happened before on the strip!

BTW I agree with the late night/early morning gambling. Much easier to find a decent game. And it feels so good heading up to my room after a long night at the tables at the same time others are coming down for breakfast!

Vanguard attracts a hip, younger crowd, but Im a 34 year old southern boy and felt comfortable. Then again, it was still light outside and they were not crowded. Dont know if I'd go past 10 pm (my jeans dont cost $200 and I'd rather sit at a $5 table, not pay $8 for a drink). However, its a cool spot for a drink and I would recommend checking it out. Same with Insert Coins, but more of a relaxed feel.
I think some of my best runs have been at a DT casino at 3 am. I try to pull an all nighter at least once a trip (lately old age wins out and I cant make it, but I try), and there is nothing better than seeing the sun come up over the FSE.
