El Cortez is one my fave casinos - still is.

In April I decide I want to go to Vegas in June.
Let's book all my rooms now and then rebook if I find cheaper.

Orbitz and Travelocity tout a bogo night @ the El Cortez.
fine print: something about staying more than 7 nights comes with a $25/nt fee.

so let's gamble. I'll book 6 nights, 6 more nights, then 4 nights.
although checking every now and then over the next 2 and a half months, never found a better deal for rooms.

it's June - time to go to vegas. in the past, i've always printed out all my reservations, had a folder, and *never* needed any of that documentation upon checkin. it was always ID and CC and here's your keys.

I show up and there's a problem...ruh-roh. I have my confirmation number but no Orbitz doc printed. front desk girl goes to the back room. comes back. goes back again, etc.....like I'm buying a car. They are now gambling. I gambled....and lost. they took the gamble to call me on it, and say that I'll have to pay $25/nt if I stay more than 7 days in the month (didn't realize it was 'in the month' - thought maybe it was 'in a row' - either way doesn't matter). I believe the fee is because the deal it too good. I say I'll just cancel my other 2 reservations. they also lose (assuming they weren't 100% capacity, and didn't fill the rooms). so in the long run I have to scramble and pay more than I was going to originally pay (but not as much as what El Cortez would be getting from me - thanks to nearly last minute reservations to the Claremont and AZ Charlies).

in retrospect, I should've had those docs printed, as there's no mention of a fee. I believe the fee was mentioned on the original websites, but upon review, not on my reservation confirmation emails. maybe I would still have been charged regardless though. moral of the story: don't try to do consecutive reservations @ El Cortez to skirt their "deal too good" fee. Needless to say I also didn't gamble as much as I would normally there. I consider it a lovers' quarrel. I'll be back (to see how my money's doing and deposit a little more).
