El Cortez Cabana Suites

Decided to try the the El Cortez Cabana Suites next month, has anyone tried these? If so it would be great to hear your opinions! I haven't stayed downtown since I first started going to Vegas in the 70's.
Many posts have been written about El Cortez' Cabana Suites. You can see a lot of them by doing a search for the word "Cabana" in the title to threads in this forum.

Here's one of the many threads you'll find.
I loved the room but you do have to go outside to get from El Cortez to Cabana. There is not much going on in the hotel itself, but the lobby is pretty--we were there at Christmas. They do have security outside at night. As long as you are in for the evening, it is great, but kind of a pain if you decide you want a late night snack or a gambling run.
we stayed there last November, we loved it, it was nice that it was away from Freemont (2 minute walk) so it was quiet at night, the suites are real funky and a good size with a nice bathroom, we always stay on the strip and travel to Freemont one night but it was really nice to have a room down there as we always buy our souviners there and the food it so much cheaper but we find we can only wander around and gamble at the same spots for so long so we only stay 2 nights and then headed back to the strip, but I am sure you will love the room! I personally liked that it was across the street and not connected to the casino, we felt safe all the time!

We didn't care for our room. Yes the bathrooms were beautiful. Our room was extremely small--regular cabana room/not a suite. The ac unit is so close to the bed that air flow was restricted causing the unit to shut off before the entire room was cooled off. There is security guard posted outside which is nice. The place is only 5 stories high and street traffic is loud--our room was right above where the security guards stood and you could hear him talking most of the night.
We have stayed there 3 times and going again in April. Security guard is always there and we never even felt the need anyway.

I have stayed here my last three trips. It is starting to become one of my favorites. I like the fact that it is a bit away from the main part of Fremont street.
