ElCortez... Customer Service & The Barber

I am heading out to Vegas in the next few days and I was curious to find out if the barber shop located at the El Cortez was still in operation. So, I decided to take a chance and look on the website. I couldn't find anything about the barber shop, so I decided to use their on-line contact forum.

A few hours later, I received an email back from the general manager indicating that the barber shop was still in operation from Tues-Saturday (8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.).

I was surprised to even get a response, let alone that quickly.... and from the general manger.
Nice to hear about your experience. I have a question or two for you. What are the rates for a basic cut? I usually get mine done before I go (number 1 or number 2 over the whole head, no side-burns, and block it in the back.) Is this shop someplace you normally go to, and why? Do they offer straight blade shaves? That is something I have always wanted to get, but have never treated myself.

On another topic, I know you have inquired about the Golden Nugget and the Landry's Select Card (VIP, etc.) Let us know, as I am sure you were planning to do, what you find out. Thanks, have fun, and good luck. Jealous of you for about 3 more weeks (when I will be going.)

The few times I have emailed El Co, the GM personally responded back and helped to answer my question. Either they have 10 GM's checking emails or they are really that hands on. (Gold Spike is good about a suit answering emails personally, not an automated response).

Also, I thought I read somewhere that the new Plaza added a barber shop? Or maybe it was a fancy spa..

Bu$hman.....

From what I recall, it is your typical barber shop and not a fancy hair salon. I think a basic cut is $12 - $13 and he only accepts walk-ins and no appointments. The place is a very typical and simple barber shop. The reason I went there was that I never got around to getting a hair cut and the fact I was downtown, I just decided to give it a try as I read on this website that people recommended it. For some reason, I do recall seeing that you can get a straight shave, but I am not 100% certain.

This time I am sort of the same situation where I don't think I will have time to get a hair cut before heading out to Vegas. Because it will be so damn hot, and I plan on spending time in the pool, I like the low-maintenance of a short hair cut.

I will let you know how my upgrade situation goes at the Nugget when I come back.

Rkorbyl, just what I am looking for. Basic run-of-the-mill barber...Old school. Love that it is walk-in, no appointments. Sit in your chair and wait your turn. Read a magazine (I remember when I was a kid and dad took me to the barber's that the adult magazines were behind the counter. Off limits to us and the barber made certain it stayed that way.) and pass the time. Used to visit a friend in Austin. They had a four-chair shop. Awesome. No longer exists, but boy was it cool.
Bushman.... just so you know, there are no real signs indicating where the barber shop at the El Cortez is located. It is situated on the 2nd floor at the end of the hall. From what I remember, it is right across typical tower rooms.
It's on the second floor, same wing as the "Vintage Rooms." Access is by stairs only, the staircase near the sports book. I've never gotten a haircut there, but it looks like a basic barber shop.

I do remember reading about the El Cortez on cheapovegas.com a long time ago. They listed two entertainment options at the El: Get your hair cut, or watch people getting their hair cut.

Yes, Plaza did add a new Barber Shop. I think that it has barbers in Bikinis (check out Plaza's website for more information).

The barber shop in the El Cortez is still in operation except Sunday's and Mondays. It is a basic barber shop which offers hair cuts for $12 and shaves for $15. It is still operated by Ernesto Ortiz - (702) 384-6502 or (702) 385-5200 Ext. # 77

I showed up on Saturday at about 4:00 p.m. and didn't have to wait at all.
rkorbyl, thank you very much for all of the updates. Much appreciated. Just as a barber should be, closed on Sun. and Mon. If I don't get my hair cut in the next week or so, I might just drop by. I might just drop by solely for the shave. I've wanted a straight razor shave for a long time.
