First Downtown Stay Hotel Help

Hi all!

My wife and I usually stay on the strip but really like the vibe of downtown. That being said we're planing on staying downtown on our next trip this coming April/May. My question being out of the following hotels which one would you recommend. We're looking at MSS, the Cal, 4Q's or the Plaza. We're both in our mid 30s, would spend our days on the strip and nights downtown. We have nothing against the Strip but just perfer the feel of old Vegas. We do a decent amount of playing slots so we're looking for a place that would have decent comps for the future as well.

Thanks for the help.
Welcome to the group!

As for the rate of cashback and/or Freeplay and comps, I think that Four Queens might be the best for you, then maybe Las Vegas Club (coin-in requirements are lower there than at Plaza [these two are owned by the same company]) and then maybe MSS and then maybe Cal. Also, El Cortez might be another option for cashback/freeplay and comps if you are interested.

My advice would depend on what range your daily slot play falls into.

With the upgrades at the Plaza, I'm not sure exactly what it takes to get future offers there. In the past, 1k coin-in per day would get you pretty good offers at the Plaza or Las Vegas Club.

MSS was my first love in Vegas, and I still stay there often. My offers started with just over 1k coin-in, but that was 3 weekday nights. I currently try to average about 5k per day, and that gets 4 nights anytime and $50 in slot play, with monthly mailers.

For 8k per day at Four Queens, I get their RFB, which allows limited amounts of Room Service, Magnolia's, CBC, and one dinner for 2 at Hugo's. This also gets me monthly tourney invites, and a suite when it's available. Smaller play, starting at about 3k per day, yields smaller offers. Sara and Jen are my favorite hosts anywhere.

As always, YMMV
I'd rate El Cortez higher than all those places for about the same price ...

... but if I was limited to your list I'd go with MSS/Cal just for the restaurant selection. They have some great eating establishments to spend your comps. And their slot club is open to other properties.

I am on the opposite side of the spectrum. Not a high roller by any means and I don't keep track of my coin in but I play plenty at the Fitz, Four Queens and the Boyd properties.

However the Boyd properties which are the Fremont,California and Main Street Station are the only ones that offer me free rooms.

I usually get four free nights, 30 bucks in free play and 30 dollar food credit.

I agree with pj. The California and MSS have good restaurants at reasonable prices. You can also use your points for food and I think they discount the price 40% percent if I am not mistaken.

Their players club website is bconnectedonline.com
I also recommend the Golden Nugget. They have great room prices for being one of the nicest hotels downtown if you sign up on their email list. Their "shark tank" pool is awesome but the water is still a bit too cool for me in April and May.
