Fremont Hotel

Would like some info on the Fremont Hotel Rooms. Has anyone stayed in one of there rooms recently? Don't need a 5 star room, but would like at least a 3 star with a comfy bed. What room would be the best for less noise and away from fremont st noise at night. I like Fremont St but I go to bed early and a very light sleeper. Are there resturants of a general good quality? How is the gaming on the tables and the slots?
Thanks
I have stayed there several times. The rooms are not fancy by any means, but are adequate (for me anyway). Somewhat outdated. As of my last stay, the televisions were still the ones brought over by Christopher Colombus. No big deal because I don't watch TV in Vegas anyway. Since you go to bed early and are a light sleeper, I would strongly recommend not staying on the Fremont St side of the hotel. The light show will wake you. Also, be forewarned that the rooms have blinds over the windows instead of curtains. Light manages to come in no matter how you adjust the blinds.

Food is decent there. Nothing special, nothing horrible. Reasonably priced cafe and buffet (my two personal favorites). Tony Roma's, Second Street Grill, Lanai Express (chinese) and a Dunkin Donuts. Gaming is about average for downtown.

In my opinion the Fremont is well worth the price. It all depends on what you are looking for.
Stayed there once and only spent one night out 3 there (leaving early). The room was down right nasty. I am by no way a germ-a-phobic but this was gross. Staff didn't give a crap and the manager/supervisor was down right rude. When we complained we were told "so--go try and find a room some where else on a weekend" We did and left.

Let me explain a little what happened--first of all the first 2 rooms they sent us to had unmade beds with trash all over. When we finally got a "clean" room--housekeeping was unavailable. When we left after the first night it was nearly 6 PM and still had no housekeeping. Our "clean room" had hair in the bathroom.

We may have hit a bad weekend-but the managements reaction was unexcusable.
It has also been several years for me since I last stayed there, but the one thing that stood out to me was how really small the bathroom was.

For many years the Fremont was my "home" hotel with Boyd downtown. The rooms are OK, and the bathrooms are very small. I changed to the California last year and I have been very pleased with the rooms. Also, the bathrooms are larger and nicer.
We stayed there two nights last month, and Chadley's remarks are right on target. I thought the bed was quite comfortable - DH didn't agree, but then again he didn't like the beds at the other two places we stayed either. The buffet is average, but if you have the 241 coupon it seems a lot better. If you get the hot dog and Coke combo at Lanai Express you'd better be hungry - that is one monster hot dog! The room was clean, and I like their selection of slots. We don't play table games, so I can't comment on that.
I agree chadley also. I always stay there as my rooms are comped and I like the casino. Plus you step outside by the checkin and can catch the bus to Sam's Town.

As for the blinds I ask housekeeping for extra blankets and use them to cover the blinds.
Yes! I didn't mention that the bathrooms are quite small. And that the room comps are relatively easy (that's one reason I stay there). And, loydthelover, I like your idea about putting blankets over the windows! Will try it next time. I love the Vegas sun as much as anyone...but not so much first thing in the morning after a long night of vodka sours...which, by the way, are pretty good at the Fremont!

As for gaming, I only play some table games (craps, BJ, pai gow poker) and video poker. Fremont table games are about par for downtown. They have a few decent payback VP machines scattered around. As for slots, I really can't say much since I don't play them. But from what I can tell they have a decent mix.

I stayed there once years ago and the bathroom was definitely dinky (as a matter of fact, the towel rack was on the back wall of the bathtub inside the bathtub area) and I also did not like the blinds in there (I really like having as much darkness as possible when I sleep)!
