GN and comps

Does anyone get comped room at Golden Nugget?
I have been told they aren't too free with comps. Not their businees model.
We have two friends that were in Las Vegas last year and they were comped food and room Rush Tower. Both played quite a bit he usaully played $25/$50 BJ and she usually played $1.00 slots for at least 6 hours daily. We hate to be tied down (move around a good bit) to playing a certain amount dollars or so many hours for a few dollars worth of comps. We get some comps and feel they are fair. Guess main thing is to get a good host and keep in touch with them during trip to actually see what is expected. I know they were offered back twice since their trip last year. I do know it would have been a little cheaper (whole lot) if they just pay for their food and room. They had a horrible trip as far as gambling.
We have stayed at the GN each trip for the past 15 years and have never been offered a comp. We are not big gamblers about 5 to 10k per trip. GN is still our favorite place the staff has always been helpful and friendly. I do agree that the food is not up to the standards I would expect.

Based on my experience (my play is far less than yours) I would suspect you should get something. Are you members of the 24 karat gold club? Do you use your player's card? If so, I see no reason for you to at least visit the host's room and inquire about what can be done. Do it the night before you leave, but give your last bit of play a few hours to get into the system. Charge everything to your room, that way, maybe they can take a buffet off, or a room night's cost. You might not get much, but "it don't hurt to ask." How many days are your trips? As I said, my play is less, and I spend 4 nights, but I usually get something.

FWIW, I stayed there in June, 2012 and payed whatever the rack rate was for the dates I wanted to stay for the room I wanted. To boot, it was during that laser show, ecstasy-drug fueled techno hippie music weekend out at the Las Vegas motor speedway (EDC something, something), which meant I was paying 2-3 times as much for the same room as it normally would cost during a given weekend. My wife and I played together on my card, did quiet a bit of slot play, and it's been crickets from their marketing dept ever since. Lame discount room cost weekends. But for the fact the only way I could get my wife to stay downtown was to bribe her with one of those newer Rush Tower rooms, I'd otherwise recommend 4Q or The D.

We stay 5 nights at GN and 2 at Red Rock or strip. I never ask for anything, maybe that's the problem.
jloeee: On the one hand, I'm inclined to agree with you that IS a problem, but if you've been going for 15 years, SOMEONE should have reached out to you by now. I'm a big believer that you can't get what you don't ask for...but, come on...15 years and you don't have a dedicated host? That's too bad and it sounds like they're taking you (& your play) for granted. You might want to consider calling and asking for the Host's office before you book your next stay out there. Ask them to pull your player's club account and inquire if they might be able to assist you with a complimentary room and _______________ (pick one: spa/show/meal) during your _______________ (trip dates) stay. You deserve to be treated like royalty with 15 years dedication to one place...especially on downtown!
I always go to talk to the host before I leave. Show them my card & have them check my play. Sometimes they'll remove room charges for a night or two Other times give me a food credit.
You should just stop in the host's office & talk to whoever is in there. I always feel awkward doing it, but it does pay off.
I usually stay at GN at least one night per trip. I like to overindulge in beverages and have a room to stumble up to rather than going back to the strip. My average play there is roughly $500-800 per day. How long that lasts depends on my luck. I play $1 DDB mostly and some $1 slots with the occasional $.25 bartop VP mixed in. After 4 years of this and recieving pretty much jack for offers, I have actually started receiving some pretty tasty offers from them. I receive about a mailer a week from them now, maybe more often it seems lately. 3 nights with $100FSP or 3 nights plus comped entry in slot tournaments seems to be the average offer. I booked a comp for 3 nights and entry into their Pawn Stars slot tourney over Memorial weekend. Rooms are pretty spendy that weekend usually.
The Golden Nugget has an icky business model when it comes to comps. They're not transparent with their comps at all. You have no idea what you've accumulated. If you want to go to a restaurant, you have to check with a host to see if it'll be comped. As it turns out, I do get free rooms...but I can't stand not knowing where I stand on comps. I've switched to The D and have given up on GN. The D has rooms and suites that rival GN and high limit vp in the same denominations as GN. All around, I'm much happier at The D than I ever was at the Golden Nugget.
