Gold Spike Closing on Sunday, Shutting Down

So says the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Purchased by Tony Hsieh's Downtown Project.

I'll miss it. I like low-roller Vegas, and even after the refurb of a few years back, this place was pretty dang low-roller. They weren't keeping the rooms up very well imho. Ah well.

Glad I stopped in last month. Always a fun place to play some $5 blackjack, interesting mix of clientele - I fit in very well...

I love downtown and I love niche casinos, but I won't miss this one.

I enjoyed using the MRB for the 24 Hour Grill. It was always good for a late night bite/sobering up snack.

The tables were staffed with hot girls, but I think the management was a little too eager to hire on their looks and less on the skills to count to 21. More than once my dealer needed help adding up totals for all the cards. Thankfully, she was good looking.

The bar was loud and full of Affliction and Ed Hardy t-shirts. Not really my scene, but always a good crowd.

Shame its shutting down, I hoped to stay there eventually.

marko..

I stayed there twice, in Fall '10 and last April. 2 comped nights each visit. Most recent visit I asked for and got a room near the pool. Basic but adequate. A/C was VERY LOUD though.
What I'll miss most is Joe, the 1st shift bartender. Always ready with a Sam Adams Boston Lager!
